Showed up at 10:50 and started calling so I could place my order first thing as soon as they opened but nobody answered the phone. Ended up sitting outside waiting for lady to open doors. She finally did at 11:10. When I asked if I could place an order she said there was a 3 hour wait and she had just opened. I come to kona for work and drive hours to get there. So I had to go work then come grab my food after I got off. Definitely don't expect to eat here for lunch. There is always multiple hours of waiting even if they just opened. And the rolls are decent but not worth the wait in my opinion and her attitude sucked too. I don't understand how they can just open and have a 3+ hour wait. I miss the good old days when you could just order and pick up shortly after. It's been so many years since they were at that level of performance and customer service. I still tipped the bill out of kindness and the fond memories I have here from over 10 years ago but I'm not sure I'll be going back since they make people wait hours and hours just to get food. I even called here once right at open another time and was told there was a 5 hour wait. They close 6 hours after opening and sometimes randomly close sooner then that. You really have to decide if it's even worth it to be completely honest. Decent food, decent price, extreme wait time and rude staff now and days. No smiles, no kindness, no aloha! What's even the point? Rolls are huge btw but not tightly rolled and will fall apart. Sometimes the rice is dry. That's all I got from my past...
Read moreI found this place off a blog and I'm so glad I did!
In summary:
I called at 12pm on a Thursday, the wait at that point was 2-2.5 hrs for an order. Theres only 1 person assembling all the rolls
Orders MUST be placed in person. I ended up swinging by the shop at 2:30pm after lunch elsewhere to place an order for 6pm pick up
They can close the shop unexpectedly early so they can finish all their orders on time by the end of day (they close at 6pm). They were double checking with the chef while I was there at 2:30pm to make sure he can complete my order by 6pm. At that point, the wait was 3 hrs.
Wait was TOTALLLY worth it! I would definitely do it again! The rolls are 50% bigger than your typical rolls and there is a good chunk of tuna/salmon.
I got the North Star, Makai, Austin, and Spicy Salmon rolls. - all amazing rolls, I like the Austin and North star by just a smidge more, but I have no regrets with any...
