Another reminder of why we stopped going here years ago....the pictures are of a sandwich we were given to replace the first one. The first one was on different bread and about a quarter of the size as the one pictured. When the first sandwich was delivered, the person who ordered it asked if that was for a child, that's how small it was, comical in comparison to the large empty plate it was served on (was as big as the little round dish the coleslaw served in). The waiter then notified us that they ran out of the bread it's supposed to come on. Asked us if we want another half to the sandwich, which the three halves still equated to less than a half of normal size. The person said no, and almost changed their entire order (mind you everyone else at the table had already been served), when the server finally asked if we wanted the sandwich on sourdough - we were skeptical but he promised it'd be normal sized. Hesitantly, we agreed. The nerve the chef had to bring out the sandwich in the picture - not only was the cheese unmelted, there was tuna only in a small circle in the middle of the bread. You can clearly see how much bread in proportion to tuna, I took a bite and only tasted bread. After the waiter ignored us for the next 20 minutes (never coming around once to even refill our coffee), we finally were able to get his attention and asked for more tuna. He tried arguing that the amount of tuna present was the exact same amount that was in the first (very small, incorrectly made, and improperly offered substitutions in a timely manner). I argued with the waiter, that if he could please just bring us enough tuna to cover the bread, we'd be somewhat happy. On top of that, the country fried steak and country potatoes were also ruined by the chef, who chose to mix raw red onion and raw bell pepper in with the over cooked, soggy potatoes. If I wasn't in a rush, I would've demanded a manager, but even if our meal had been offered to be comped, I honestly will never go back to this black bear diner location in Hayward, Ca across from Chabot College. This experience has reoccurred each time we've tried to give them a chance for redemption. If they still can't get it right after all these years, I'll save my frustrations and money to go somewhere where the chefs actually take pride in their work, and floor staff care about the patrons. Maybe they need higher wages? Who knows. I give up on them! Even their eggs are overcooked. Best thing here is the free...
Read moreYASMINE IS THE WORST!!! For someone who works "everyday" she is absolutely terrible! Black bear diner is normally a great establishment, but bye all means make the drive to go to any other one then this location. I always order the same thing weather I'm there in person or ordering they door dash. I like my food made custom to my liking and they've ALWAYS worked with me in the past, but about a month ago when I called to confirm all the adjustments YASMINE answered and asked me to repeat myself, no lie, about 6x-7x. I was ordering it to be delivered to my work, and I didnt want to be late but I needed the order to be correct since that's what I was paying for. I asked her to put the manager on the phone and I stayed on hold for over 15mins. I detoured and went there. Some kitchen manager took my order when I got there, made it fast since I mentioned I was now late for work, and the store manager gave me a little discount. YASMINE needs to learn more from them. Fast forward to today... I placed the order like always thru doordash, called to confirm everything, YASMINE answered, I'm pretty sure she remembered who I was, she was very short with me, cut me off while I was speaking, told me they cant adjust ge he order and that they e never done it for me in the past, that she would know cause she works there "everyday." She said at most she can fulfill my request of changing my pancakes to french toast, but that's it... of course when it arrived, it was pancakes. YASMINE, YOU ARE THE WORST!!! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO THERE UNTILL YOUR FIRED OR LEARN PROPER CUSTOMER SERVICE. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW YOU CAN WORK THERE "EVERYDAY" AND STILL BE THIS TERRIBLE! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE REFLECTS LEADERSHIP. TOUR NOW MAKING YOUR...
Read moreIf I could give a negative review for service I would... After reading the paper on the menu of their motto, I thought it was going to be an Excellent Experience. However, it was far from it!
I guess because I was only one person, I received No Service... I sat in a both right beside the bar where the servers came out, and the service was over as soon as my server Juan set my plate on the table. He passed by me to other tables with coffee in hand so many times I couldn't count. He talked to the other guest and laughed with them.
However, for me it was crickets!
He never asked me if the food was good, never offered me a refill or even acknowledged that I was there. He didn't even bring me my ticket. The sad part is that other serves walked by me with my cup setting on the edge of the table and never acknowledged me as well.
When I got finished with my food I went up to the register to pay and explained what was going on, he come running up with my ticket and asked if everything was okay. Shaking my head.... A little to late for that. Then the hostess asked if the food was good, it was good, but the experience of service absolutely sucked... She said sorry but it isn't her place to have to apologize for the waiter. No offer of a discount or anything.
I tip accordingly and have tipped well above a 20% before but this one got Zero. As an over the road truck driver, I eat out a bunch across our nation and it has been a very long time since I have received...
