A really great combination between an old school Mexican Family restaurant and a stand selling street tacos, this working class place in Hayward, served me some tacos that were HUGE with meat, and where as I ordered three different tacos, I didn't know that each Taco Order came with Two tacos! Notes: The Carne Asada has that taste like some expert Grandma or Taquero Callejero cooked it. The Carnitas were moist and juicy like I like them, and the chorizo was piled HIGH in the Chorizo order. The tables all have onion, Chile, and two salsas one Verde and one Roja, in a four-way metal tray, as do many old school restaurants especially in Southern California. The spicy Salsa Roja had hints of mint, and oregano, which made it unique, and their flan, was fair, and I think had a little chocolate in it. NOTE: order light! they don't mess around here! Try one order of tacos and then see if you are still hungry, don't be Tragon like me! Great people, really nice, and the Patrona there (the queen bee) reminded me of some beautiful Mexican movie queen I remember from when I was a kid in Veracruz, going to the movies near the Zocalo, but I can't remember her name. This place is real, down to earth food, for real people and I recommend it when you want to get real bang for your buck. Taquito Rocks! Next time I'll try...
Read moreCame here today after stopping by the Japanese Gardens. Unfortunately forgot to take a photo of my food but my son got a bean and cheese burrito ($5.50), I got nachos with chicken sans jalapeños ($14.95), and a large horchata ($4.95). My friend got sopes and a small horchata. My nachos filled me up almost immediately, but they were super hard to eat. Plenty of chips and toppings but they were just piled on so it was hard to actually grab a chip and get anything on it. Could probably use a larger plate and make it more spread out. I took it home for my husband to finish and he said the chicken held up really well. The bean and cheese burrito was a pretty good size. The horchara was delicious! The place was super busy, lots of customers. It is really small though so people had to keep waiting for space to sit. It's also cool that they had a to go window outside so people don't take up room inside. It was also nice that they had private parking so I didn't have to fight to find street parking. The service was good and all of the waitresses...
Read moreIn short - great mexican food!
My wife and I were staying at the nearby Best Western in Hayward. It was late (around 1:30am) and we wanted to get some food after a long day. I quickly looked on yelp for close places with good reviews and this gem of a place showed up.
We shared a chile relleno, chilaquiles and a super burrito (with chicken -- though we were recommended to try the cow tongue, pork belly and chorizo). They were all done very well. We both really appreciate it when the basics at these types of restaurants are done well. The rice was moist, flavorful as well as the beans. The chicken had great flavor and was also moist.
We both decided it was the best mexican food we had tasted in years. The staff was very polite and service was fast. Even at this late time in the evening the place was packed full of customers and was very energetic. If we are ever in the area again we...
