Saw this place, figured I would try it out. Their business is primarily delivery, which is awesome considering how few Mexican places deliver in Houston without dealing with UberEats or Amazon's service (I've worked in food service for a number of years, and after dealing with Uber and Amazon employees on the restarant side would never trust them,) so this seemed legit.
Decided to dine in. Four tables, small chairs, whatever. Guy at the counter was real polite and knowledgeable about his menu, woman working in the back who brought the food to the table was nice as well. 1/2 pound of mixed fajitas came with plenty of chips and salsa, with the salsa being pretty good and served warm. Check there.
Food came out, beef was excellent, chicken was good, and the tortillas are obviously made in house and made well. Large and thin, not that doughy flour tortilla some places make. Even the portion of guacamole was pretty decent sized, and while not technically included, they gave me a small side of sour cream at no charge when I requested it. YMMV on that, but pretty cool. I decided I wanted some queso to go with the fajitas, so I ordered that too.
First impression, a medium queso was small for being six bucks, but considering the quality of everything else, I figured a smaller portion of really good queso would be worth it.
It wasn't.
The thought had never occurred to me to use the powdered mix in Kraft Macaroni and Cheese to make queso with, but after eating a Fajita Pete's I've got a good idea of what to expect if that thought ever crosses my mind. Watery, flavorless, and just overall bad. We ate it, so I wasn't going to ask for my money back, but we wouldn't order it again.
If you have a really good queso recipe you make at home, or have a queso you buy at the store that you think is fantastic, make that at home and let Fajita Pete's do the hard work of making fresh tortillas, delicious fajita steak and chicken, and serving the other sides brought to your door or office. You know what to expect because they tell you up front what the portions are, and the food is well made.
If you don't have ready access to good queso, you're out of luck, as Fajita Pete's doesn't either. You'll need to find a plan B, or go without.
Real shame too, because in Houston selling Mexican (Tex-Mex) with bad queso is a cardinal sin, otherwise I would have rated...

EDIT: Regarding Lissa Scott’s review below, I actually happened to be present for the incident as I work nearby. She is entirely misrepresenting the situation - she entered the establishment hostile from the beginning and began to threaten and yell at the worker because he had the “audacity” to answer the phone to put someone on hold before taking her order. She then grew irate with him personally over the plating menu being different and yelled about how the customer is always right, all of this with her mask off and pulled away from her face- thereby endangering everyone in the restaurant. I personally told her to put it on correctly after she insisted to him that she was wearing it, which she finally did. She then began to yell at him regarding how he speaks with his hands, which he was doing nowhere near her and was not unprofessional at all but she treated it as though he was attempting to hit her. In her review she states that he refused to take her order but in fact he tried several times and SHE is the one who stated she would only order from the manager. All in all, she was incredibly rude from the start to the point where I was shaking and uneasy as another customer from how she was behaving.
Please be advised that her review is inaccurate and in bad faith, and quite frankly, the employee had the patient of a saint to not throw her out or call security for the property....
Read morePlace used to be stellar. Last time we ordered they didn’t bring the margarita or tortillas. They made a second delivery trip to bring the margarita and still didn’t bring the tortillas. Not sure how you fajitas without tortillas. Person on the phone didn’t offer anything to for messing up the order.
Tonight we are trying to order and after being on hold for over 5 minutes we called back only to be told to remain on hold and then we were hung up on 3 times in a row. In total we waited over 25 minutes on at least 5 different calls without anyone attending our call. When I called and told the lady that she hung up on me she argued with me and said I told you to wait on hold. In what world is it okay for an employee to argue with a customer let alone talk back to them when they are trying to order.
New employees are awful and we miss Vernon.
Can’t say that I’m ever going to order from this place again until...
