As someone who has eaten since 1989 at steffano's I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal there. I love that the service is slow because I know that my food is being made fresh and right when ordered. love the atmosphere and décor. That all being said apparently today was "take your granddaughter to work day" one of the local schools had a fire and was closed. that is the only reason I can think of that they would let their possibly 13 year old granddaughter help out. I would normally think this was great, unfortunately it was not. the girl was messing with all the tickets. distracting the other employee's . played with one sandwich and actually flipped it upside down on the counter to where the other employees had to stop what they were doing to remake the sandwich. watched her play with the saran wrap and as slow as a snail wrapped said sandwich. she kept distracting her grandmother from taking her orders. the whole time not once did an adult say anything to her. in the mean time the people behind me (who ordered a sandwich ) were served before us. My husband is military and had to get back to post!!! I finally said something and the gentleman who waited on it stops everything to lecture me on patience. not to cause a scene I just let it go. then I watch the little darling deliver trays of food to the customers with a delightful smile. but not once did she grab the dirty trays stacked all over the tables on her way back to play grown up. the customers in order to sit all had to bus the table before them themselves. They started stacking all the trays on one table and proceeded to sit at dirty tables. so I caution you. the food is amazing. just make sure it is not "bring your child...

This sandwich shop is the best. I've been coming here since I was a kid and the quality of food has never, and I mean NEVER been less than great! The decor is one of a kind in helena, the service is always quick even when they are packed. This mom and pop shop loves hiring teenagers and must be training them right! The sandwichs are perfectly portioned. If you want a small bite get a quarter sub. Want something that will fill you up and still leave you wishing you could've ate more of it? Get a half! Or eat one quarter now and the other later! The only remotely negative thing I have to say about this place is that if you order your sandwich with "special sauce", and you should since it's so good!, is don't wait until the next day to enjoy it as it will soak into the bread and make it soggy. They source their bread right here in town from vanns bakery I think so you can understand why this happens! Good bread soaks up juices! You get one meat, two cheeses, and a wealth of toppings to choose from. Or get ahot steak sandwich to warm you up. I cannot write enough good things about this place! Good drink options, great snack add ons for your sub ( a candy bar or bag pf chips with variety to choose from,) warm delicious soup of the day that come with crackers, and your kiddos will love the pizza or BBQ roll up! 10 out of 10...
