My family has been customers for a few years, but this restaurant has taken a turn for the utter worst with the rudest staff and the worst customer service. While visiting for dinner the wait was tremendous with an extremely rude server. He kept calling me, “bro” and never apologized for the long wait, but what made it worse was his blatant disregard for the customers waiting in line. Instead of servicing the customers waiting he was adjusting menus and you could verbally hear him making continual comments to the staff in the back.
Finally when he got to us he gave us a dead look, and after we made a comment about the wait his first response was, “are you giving me attitude bro?” I was floored by this extremely vulgar and rude response. All I had asked was if he was ready to take our order, I had been waiting for 15 minutes with only two customers in front of me. What made the issue worse was that my Father who was using a cane due to his recent surgery was forced to stand while waiting.
During the confrontation this “server” who chose not to serve the customers began to say, “hey at least I’m workin’, can’t you see how busy I’m workin’, you should learn to wait and be patient.. etc.” Never once did he apologize, instead he continued to berate me as if I was a hebetudinous customer. This pernicious approach made my extended family and myself feel extremely uncomfortable, with even my grandparents who are regulars leave disgusted and sickened.
I teach and have worked in mental institutions, my job relies on patience. His aggression made my family leave. I left a note to the manager who was not working, only to not receive a call back or a formal apology. This extremely poor service should be noted, I will no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone ever again. The place is unwelcoming, extremely unfriendly, and their unorthodox “service” will make you leave. Never support his establishment, and please never recommend this restaurant to...
Read moreOne of my closest friends is originally from Hawaii and comes to visit the 9th Island pretty frequently. When we first moved here, he came for a visit and took me to eat at Aloha Specialties, which he said was his favorite Hawaiian restaurant anywhere. Most of my previous Hawaiian food experience had centered around L&L Hawaiian, which is gross. We went and ate there and I loved it. I wanted to eat there all the time but it's a hassle to get down to Fremont and find parking with all of the perpetual construction there. they were also frequently out of food I wanted because they are popular and people eat there a lot. I drove all the way down there a couple of times only to be turned away, which is frustrating.
I found Ross J's on a fluke. I was nearby getting a modification made to my truck and the guys running the shop recommended this. I wandered in and remarked that their menu looked similar to Aloha Specialties. They informed me that they were owned by the same company. This was exciting news since Ross J's is conveniently located in the suburbs with plentiful parking. I also love Makai and I feel like the combined menu of these two places constitutes the ultimate Hawaiian restaurant. I can get all the Hawaiian BBQ I need from Makai and I can get Saimin, Loco Mocco, etc. from Ross J's. The food and service are both fantastic. I particularly love their loco mocco and I want to explore the menu further. I've been back twice and I'll eat there whenever I'm in the...
Read moreAlways love to support small businesses, we decided to come here after Aloha Specialities is currently renovating and that we always like to try a new place whenever we're in town. From the reviews, most reviewers here boasts about the korean chicken. Because of the recommendation, we got the aloha bento which had the hot dog, teri beef, and korean chicken with a small container of their mac salad. We also got a teri-plate in addition to feed the kids. Portions are good enough to share and prices are decent for what you get.
However, I do think the korean chicken didn't taste spicy and there were way too much of the teriyaki sauce on top. So our bento and our teri plate actually tasted the same because of it. One of our mac salads tasted like it had pinch of chili pepper on it and an odd taste of mayo. Had to toss that unfortunately. The ladies over the counter and the vibe here (as well as the wait) sure does bring me back to the islands. They were helpful and nice. The seating here looks like its been worn out a bit and the wait here can be long.
As of June 2016, don't take Sunset because of construction. It also took us awhile to get back to our hotel. The good thing for us, we ate most of it while stuck in traffic. Their teriyaki sauce is not overly thick,...
