They were nice people. (Not worth $75 for two people not including tip). However there was some inconsistencies. After we got our drinks ordered and the appetizers placed it wasn’t about 10 minutes later until they served us the complimentary rolls which were simply fillers and nothing else. We noticed some time had passed and we still haven’t seen our appetizers. There were maybe 4 other tables in the restaurant at that time and I believe most of them were either already eating or just drinking. Also it seemed like every employee from waiters, cooks, and mangers were just standing there talking. Before we asked on how our food was coming along the food runner came out and presented our main course. Probably about 25 minutes after we placed the order. Then a salad was brought out for one of us but we never ordered a salad and I’m not sure if it comes automatically with the entree which we both ordered one so I’m unsure why we didn’t get two? No big deal I’m sure I just didn’t read something on the menu. We were not disappointed with the main course regarding the protein. The potatoes which seem to come with every entree were also just a filler and nothing special regarding flavor. We asked the food runner on how our appetizers were coming. Which were no longer appetizers at this point. To which they apologized and brought it out a few minutes later. The appetizer which was the sausage plate was disappointing for us. I feel like we got a little bamboozled with it. Just seemed like hot dogs and store bought sausage boiled in water and thrown on a skillet to get a little crispy then a shot of mustard and some type of curry sauce to go along with it. The meal was a bit salty as pork goes so we moved our empty cups to the end of the table to leave a hint we needed a refill. We did not get one. No big deal. The server came with the check and asked us if we wanted dessert. Not sure if they meant to bring the check with them while asking us if we wanted desert. We said no thank you. They said yeah our desserts are weird. Hell of a sales pitch. All in all. If you just wanna try German pork and drink good German beer you will enjoy this place. If you are looking for anything else you will notice inconsistencies. I feel like this restaurant is simply just short of consistency, a little training, maybe a touch more hustle, reconsider prices, or increase the quality of food and not focus so much...
Read moreThis place used to be really special for my fiancée and I. We dined in a couple of days ago and had a mediocre experience. The food was okay, and we always enjoy the pretzel and bratwurst as an appetizer. My fiancée had the chef salad and I had a sandwich. The roasted potatoes were a bit mushy (I’m not super familiar with German cuisine, so perhaps they are supposed to be like that). What really bothered me was that when my fiancée went to use the restroom, the ladies’ room was occupied, and a staff member told her to “just go in the men’s restroom and lock the door.” Of course, she was not comfortable with this and waited. However, when another female patron went to use the women’s restroom while my fiancée was in there, AGAIN the staff member encouraged her to use the men’s restroom. The woman reluctantly went in and of course, a gentleman had to use the men’s room and approached the door, which was locked. When the woman exited the man said “I hope you’ve got good aim!” I’m sorry, but we have social norms for a reason… I don’t care if you support the LGBTQ+ community and choose to sport a pride flag in your restaurant, but don’t encourage someone to use a restroom they’re not comfortable using. I was so wildly uncomfortable watching this and was super embarrassed for the other female patron. I knew my fiancée wouldn’t have used the men’s restroom anyway, but when I used it earlier, the paper towels hadn’t been restocked and there was no air dryer, so I had to go back to my table with wet hands. The atmosphere was just a little uncomfortable, and wasn’t as special as the first time my fiancée and I went together. Definitely not as welcoming as I remember it being...
Read moreWe tried it today the 3rd time after 2 not so good experiences. We usually give everybody a 2nd chance, sometimes a 3rd ;) I'm a native German and I know my German foods and how it should taste. The waitress was nice, the food was alright, the potato pancakes where not freshly made these were pre made patties and pretty hard, the salad was good the Zigeunerschnitzel and the Cordon Rouge were ok, the spaetzle were good. The greeter was not friendly at all and kinda rude, he just sent us to the table, usually they take you to the table. While we were there, a party of 6 arrived and he sent them back outside to put the menue's on the table, that was not very nice, I would have just left. They had a staff member wrapping utensils in napkins while he was eating chicken wings (from another place, makes you wonder if the food in house is any good) took a chicken bone or something out of his mouth and continued cleaning the knifes on a table in front of the bar, that was not professional at all and kinda disgusting. Those were young adults with not much experience. I understand it's hard to find staff nowadays but that's something the owner or manager should address. The atmosphere is pretty nice though and the beer selection is really good. Maybe we give the Heidelberg another chance when we're up there, but we have 3 delicious German/Austrian restaurants not too far in Spartanburg SC and Greenville SC, those are our favorites. One in Greenville,SC is top notch, top quality...
