We tried to give them a chance but nope! Not coming back! First of all...we are from out of town and my mother told me about this place. It was featured in a magazine that raved it was a "must try". Then I seen the Google reviews....over 2,000??
My husband tried the hot dog....he said it tasted like those cheap dollar franks that split when you cook them from back in the day. Not good! The price fit the dog because if it was more than that, it would've been a crime. I tried the burger which was just ok...nothing special at all. We also tried their "homemade" chili. It was nothing but a container chock full of beans with a little bit of meat here and there. We were choking on beans it was so many! That's too many beans for chilli people! The tomato sauce in it had an ok flavor but you couldn't enjoy it with all those beans!
I have NOOOO IDEA why this place has received such hype and people raving about how good the hot dogs are! I have seen people on these reviews travel from half across the state for this thinking they are getting the meal of their lives because of all the crazy hype it's getting! We have gone to restaurants all over the country and have had OUTSTANDING food from all types of restaurants and "mom and pop" ones as well. So we know what good food is supposed to taste like and this is not it! So if you are coming from afar, save your gas money and taste buds and go to the dollar tree and boil you a hot dog because that's what...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to Hot Dog World for years. We live about an hour and 45 minutes from Hendersonville, so it’s not an everyday visit, but every now and then it makes for a fun road trip—grab a couple of hot dogs, enjoy the mountains for the day, and head home happy.
The gentleman who runs the place is Greek, and while they do have some Greek menu items, we’ve actually never tried them. I’ve stuck to the traditional American fare, and we’ve never been disappointed. I apologize for not taking better pictures of the individual items, but on this trip we had the classic hot dog—plain with a grilled buttered bun. We also had their regular hot dog topped with chili, onions, and mustard, plus a couple of slaw dogs that add slaw to the basic version.
The grilled ham and cheese sandwich is always a winner, the onion rings are super crisp and never disappoint, and if you’re craving something sweet, they’ve got those little fried apple pies that are super nostalgic—just like the ones McDonald’s used to have when we were kids.
It’s not fancy, it’s not fine dining, and that’s exactly the point. Adjust your expectations, don’t overthink it, and just embrace the nostalgia. Enjoy a freaking hot dog every now and then—it’s not gonna kill you! The line may seem long, but if moves fast and your food will arrive hot and fresh!
To those about to nosh, I’m jealous—and I...
Read moreDespite the setbacks from COVID-19, The establishment seemed to be booming. The wait staff had an outdoor area set up under the outdoor sitting area where they'd take orders. They brought our food to us. Staff was accommodating allowing me to mix two different flavors of milkshake, bringing extra ranch for the tots, and more which says a lot about their attention to detail. MANY times I've gone to dig through a bag of food at a drive thru or even when I'm dining in at a different establishment only to find a straw for a drink, dipping sauce I'd paid extra for, and food items I'd been charged for missing in action which is beyond inconvenient of you can't afford to return when you have a limited lunch break at work. The only setback is they're still cash only, but that's my personal opinion since I'm young and prefer not to carry cash (my wallet was stolen once). One thing that sets Hot Dog World apart is that the servers are some of the friendliest people you'll encounter in the small town of Hendersonville. They're paid fairly with benefits and many of the servers have been employed since highschool so some of them have been there happily for 10+ years! I only spend my money at places where the staff are treated with respect and fairness! 5/5...
