I've been wanting to write this review for the longest time and regret not writing it sooner to help those looking for a good thai place to try.
I gotta say, this is the worst place ever. Food, bland, service, the worst I've ever experienced in any restaurant. I spent over $200 at this place for my dad's visit.
Came here on a recommendation, got there, it's supposed to open at 11, 15 minutes after 11, the owner comes rolling by and looks at us, says hi to the other couple that had been waiting as well, opens the door and closes it.
They come back 10 minutes later, opens the door and we start heading in. We get seated and waited on a friend and his sister.
The waiter, has not even asked us at this point what we would like to drink, but instead asks us if we were ready to order? I'm shocked and mentioned to them that we were still waiting on some friends as we mentioned to them when we were being seated. The lady walked away and made a snickering noise. I pay no attention, they go back and more people come in, they greeted them courteously and started to talk to them.
My friends finally arrived, we talk, and finally agree on what to order. We wait, they never come, so I go and tell the waiter we're ready and that we haven't gotten an order for drinks either.
She said she'll be there, she finally makes her way to our table, we place our order.
45 minutes later after the order we placed, not including the the we got there. At this point we're starving, I'm really cranky, my wife and dad tells me it's okay, calm down. I need a drink, they finally come and bring our drinks, and 3 dishes out of 8 dishes I ordered.
We start snacking, 10 minutes later my dad and I still haven't gotten our drinks. I walk up to the bar and politely let them know that we have not received our alcoholic beverages.
The guy finally brings us our drink, doesn't pour it to a cup, he just hands the tall can of sapporo to me. I open the can up and it gushes out, all over me and the table. At this point, I'm heated, but I calm myself down and just think to myself I won't tip.
Lastly, end of a disappointing meal and the worst service I've ever experienced in my dining life. The lady brings our check and what do you know, 18% gratuity already included. At this point I'm so furious, my wife and dad are trying convincing me to not make a scene. I head outside for a cigarette and my wife pays...
Read moreLast night, around 7:40pm on 11/19/2016, I went Thai Luang but their greeting attitude was cold as same as outside weather. It was probably that I came there by myself. The staff asked me to seat right next to the door, ahhhhh..... chilly.....wind come from the door...Looks like family business, but anyhow, a lady came to me and asked what I wanted to drink so I asked me to bring the water. Wow.. her attitude was getting colder and then brought the icy water with full of ices. Damn!! The menu didn't have various dishes unlike I've eaten at other Thai restaurants I ordered duck stir fry with Thai rice noodles dish (can't remember exact name). The duck wasn't freshly cooked and it wasn't hot either, duck looked and tasted like deep-fried rather than slowly cooked over the cold pan to make crispy. How do I know? I'm a chef. :-P The waiter came to me and re-filled up water without asking me to fill it up. That was so embarrassing behavior unlike other restaurants. I could order some drinks but because of their nasty attitude, I asked them to bring a bill. Ironically, the bill was overcharged so I asked to a young waitress to bring their menu. I showed to her the menu and bill together and asked the differences. She looked them but didn't recognize what it was so I had to pointed out the price differences. It was just one dish on a bill and the restaurant wasn't packed with customers either. Do you know what I mean? Isn't Tip equivalent to15% generally? Overall, this Thai restaurant isn't good location for the customers or foodies unless they improve their service...
Read moreSwung here about 8 in the evening on a Tuesday. Got the Red Curry, Thai Spicy.
The curry was very good, above the average in flavor. It was creamy, spicy, and generally tasty. However, the onions and peppers were a little on the soft side and the beef was a little chewy. It did come out of the kitchen suspiciously fast. I also thought the amount of rice provided on the side was not very proportional to the curry. Overall it was delicious though.
The server/hostess were very polite. The hostess seated me immediately and then took my order about a minute later, although I am sure it helped that the place was almost empty at the time. The food came about 10 minutes from my order. The server refilled my glass several times while I ate (it was pretty spicy).
The atmosphere was nice. Cozy, well decorated, and the seats and tables were well arranged. However, the lighting was a little bit too dim for my liking.
What I disliked was the price. The price came out to $16.28 (15 + tax) for just the Red Curry, no sides, appetizers, or drinks. I can understand that price in say downtown DC, or with the tip already factored in, but this is the edge of Herndon/Reston, not really near anything and not above typical for a Thai restaurant. Their Lunch special prices were around $12-13 for the same food, so it is not just the dinner price either. The food was really good and the portions sizable, but not $16 good. This is the only major reason I can't give this place 5 stars.
Final scores: Service: 10/10 Food: 8/10 Atmosphere:...
