This is the rare Chinese restaurant that, despite averaging 5 stars, is truly and authentically delicious!! (There was a meme about how authentic Asian restaurants typically average 3.5 stars. It's usually true! This place is the exception.) My parents, who are from Shanghai, approve of Yu Noodles. The soup dumplings taste like home 🥲😭 sooo good. Out of the three xiaolongbao flavors, the peppercorn pork ones are the best!! They aren't spicy per se but have an amazing richness.
The flounder noodle soup with pickled mustard is my favorite thing to order. It's a great ratio of broth, noodles, veg, and toppings. When we were last here we also got the Sichuan beef noodle soup - it was yummy!
We always get the scallion pancakes too. It's a thicker, denser batter than I grew up with but the flavor is amazing and they come out so crispy and perfect for dipping. I also really like the woodear salad appetizer and the cucumber salad appetizer. Very garlicky so bring the mints for after.
Portions are enormous! Must come with appetite. One could fill up on a $10-13 bowl of noodles but if you have the stomach space, definitely get soup dumplings too.
Last note: Their teapots are so cute and they pour perfectly. You wouldn't think that tea spillage is such a big deal but I've tried a LOT of teapots and none have poured as consistently as the ones here - no spills ever!! Makes for a really nice...
Read moreI remember a time when all my friends and family raving about the original Yu Noodles in Fairfax. We all tried that and loved the place because that was the only spot we had a few years back that offered that kind of flavor in the area. Now, there have been a bunch of similar places popping up, how does this Yu Noodles in Herndon fare? Pretty average if I have to be honest from the food, the staff, to the décor.
I came with a big group and we shared bites. I wasn't wowed by any of the options. Maybe I've become too sensitized or the place is average. Was it bad? No, not at all. It's not memorable to me taste-wise. We ordered soup dumplings, spicy wontons, dried beef noodles, intestine noodles, sour soup-based beef noodles, and fish noodles. None of them stood out to me. The spicy wonton was probably the best one out of them. Even then, I could kind of tell the texture of the wonton was slightly off like it had been in the water too long or like it was pre-boiled and re-boiled before serving. Don't get me wrong though, this place isn't bad at all. If you're feeling authentic Chinese noodles and you don't feel like driving far, it's a...
Read more20240710 I ordered the Crispy Crullers, Peppercorn Spicy Pork Soup Dumplings, and Spicy Beef Brisket with Rice Noodles in Holden Soup. The Crullers were delicious! Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup was good, and it has sour green veggies. When eat8ng soup dumplings... be careful, while biting into it, the soup can shoot out like a fountain. Lol. Some shot out and onto the floor! The tall Asian Waiter was very nice. I like that he always has a smile on his face, which is nice. Friendly serve is rare nowaday. 20230120 I went to their Fairfax location several times and since I'm in the area, thought I would try this location. The restaurant is a lot bigger than the Fairfax location and the waitresses are so nice! I ordered the Noodle Chickpea and Minced Pork soup and my usual Peppercorn Spicy Soup Dumplings. The Noodle Soup was featured on a poster outside the store window. The broth is delicious, and in a thicker and heavy side. The soup dumplings have soup!! In the dumplings, but weren't spicy. I added some hot Chilli pepper oil but it ended up covering the dumplings taste. The food is unique and delicious. The service...
