Pancho Villas is one of many Mexican restaurants to call High Point home, but its size and menu offerings help it stand out from the pack. The fact that it was moderately crowded a little past two on a Sunday afternoon speaks to its value and general competence as much as it does to its popularity.
"Big" seems to define Pancho Villas in several regards. There is plenty of parking, plenty of seating, and plenty to choose from on the menu. These offerings include the usual suspects (tacos, burritos, fajitas, etc.) as well as a few dishes I've yet to see elsewhere. Elote (street corn) is offered here in breaded bite form, and the menu also boasts of red snapper with diablo sauce and fried Cornish hen. From light to heavy, mild to spicy, and vegetarian to omnivorous, there seems to be something for everyone here.
The "somethings" I had occasion to try for my first visit were the aforementioned elote bites and a monster chile verde wet burrito. The former were amazing: crunch on the outside and cheesy on the inside with just a hint of sweetness. The burrito was appreciably substantial and appropriately slathered (in lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and guac). The pork inside was cut in smaller pieces than typical for this dish, but it was no less flavorful. Nothing on the plate struck a false note.
For the amount of food, Pancho Villas' pricing is more than fair. My burrito (which easily yielded leftovers) came in at $9 while the elote bites (app-sized for two) were $7. As mentioned, it was fairly busy during the visit (and therefore a but loud), but service was up to the task. Pancho Villas is not the best Mexican restaurant I've encountered nor is it the most convenient, but it is a tasty, wallet-friendly option worth going out of the way for should specific cravings (a.k.a....
Read moreI decided to give this place a try since it came highly recommended and the reviews I read. Was just me dining in. I was seated quickly, and my waiter was nice, polite, and gave good service. Got one of their “specialties” being the Steak taco dinner. Believe it was the “California” steak taco dinner. I was not impressed. The steak was dry and bland. I had to put a bunch of salsa on the tacos for flavor. The bus boy who was clearing tables after people left had his rib on wheels and bumped into the back of my seat fairly hard. I look over and saw I was extremely lucky nothing spilled on me. As I looked up and made eye contact he looked back down at me and said NOTHING. No: “my bad”, “I’m sorry”, “you ok?” NOTHING. Paid for my bland taco dinner which I was really disappointed with. It’s tacos....steak tacos at a place that should be able to follow through with basic Mexican food 101. The bathroom was FILTHY. Garbage can was overfilled with paper towels on the floor and next to the sink along with the rest of the floor not being cleaned. Rather disappointed with all the reviews and advice I received to come here for it to be a bust. I won’t be coming here again if I can help it. I am from the North where there is a decent Hispanic population and the variety of great Mexican food is abundant. I really expected more from a place that came highly recommended. Dad to say I will go to Taco Bell next time and save a few bucks. If you can’t get a taco right, I don’t wanna try anything else on the menu. Thanks...
Read moreSHOCKINGLY RUDE. Our server Carlos G never spoke after the first sentence, just nodded and shrugged to questions we had about the menu. Once our food was delivered, he never came to our table again. Never offered refills on our drinks, never checked to see if our food was ok. Restaurant was almost empty as our lunch was late around 3pm. After a while, when we never received a bill, I had to go looking for someone since no one was in the hostess station either. I found some girls huddled up in a room talking and asked them for our check. Once they brought the check, no one came to get it. It sat on the table with our card in it for a solid 10 minutes. Servers were even walking by looking at it and no one would help us. So I got up again and found our server Carlos sitting at a booth with one of the girls eating, when I approached neither one made a move to get up so I said "one of you needs to get up and ring us up so we can leave please." I for the life of me don't know why we didn't just leave without paying. This place wasn't worth a dime. I just couldn't believe it, i cant imagine just never stopping by one of my own tables. I've never been so completely ignored anywhere. 100% will never return...
