Spiros Family Restaurant — Restaurant in High Point

The 3 stars are ONLY for the super friendly staff - NO stars given for the food however. My husband, myself and my parents ate at Spiros last night. This was all of our first time eating dinner here - we had eaten breakfast here about 4 months ago. But let me comment on the dinner. First of all my dad ordered the sirloin steak. The waitress came back and said they were out of sirloins - so he got the Ribeye instead. He ordered fries and fried green tomatoes as well. His fries were horrible. Looked and tasted (because I tried one) - like they had been sitting out in the open for hours, they were greasy, and very droopy, he didnt eat them and my dad LOVES fries. The fried green tomatoes looked like some overfried something, we couldnt tell - but he ate one and said he was done that they were horrible. My husband ordered the turkey & dressing special. He said it was edible but nothing great. He said the dressing tasted like Stovetop stuffing which he doesnt care for at all. He got mashed potatoes (which I will address those with my food review) and a banana pudding for dessert which he said tasted like vanilla pudding with a couple of slices of bananas mixed in. My mom and I both ordered the meatloaf special which comes with 2 sides and a dessert. Both of us were not able to eat but a couple bites of meatloaf - it was the strangest looking meatloaf we had ever seen and had a horrible taste. The mashed potatoes and brown gravy was disgusting. Both my husband and I agreed it had a "chemical" type taste - the potatoes were obviously instant potatoes and not sure what the flavor of the gravy was but not able to eat that either. My fried okra was way overdone and nothing great. My mom got broccoli for her other vegetable and it was very "hard" - not even cooked correctly. Part of it was dark green and part a lime green color. Thank goodness for the rolls and cornbread because we all ate those and they were actually good. We were there to celebrate my dads birthday which a number of the staff came over and sang happy birthday to him and brought him a small slice of some sort of cake. The singing of happy birthday was awesome and everyone was so friendly. However, we still were not sure what the cake was. I took a taste and couldnt figure it out. Seemed like some sort of gelatin layered inside a cake which we couldnt tell what kind either. With all this being said, the restaurant was packed with people and other people must love the food. We decided that we won't ever return here for dinner because the food was just horrible. However, since we had eaten breakfast here before - the food that I remember us ordering was all really good - I would recommend coming here for breakfast. Thank you for your kindness - like I said previously every staff person we came in contact with was super super friendly and smiling and very helpful and attentive to filling drinks, etc. The four of us however did all get a good laugh over how bad all our meals were. I was going to voice my concern about the food to the man as we paid our bill - but decided not too - that I would just write this review. Thank you...

Oh boy, this one may take a couple of reviews, first off everything about this place is exceptional! I have just moved to this part of town so looking for a good quality restuarant is some times hit or miss!you hear from this person or that person just how good a place is. You never really know until you go in and sit down, for me I have to get a feel for a place and the people, thats part of the restuarant experience! Well this place was just awesome from the beginning! It was very clean, and the overwhelming kindness from the waitress herself was a nice touch, she made us feel rite at home!Im going to give you one even better, we went in after the lunch crowd!The salad bar was packed with fresh lettuce and all the fixens, and clean, very well maintained! The hot bar, oh wow, let's just say this is a country boy, or girls delight!Country cooking like mom and granny use to cook!I ordered from the menu myself! I have to stick to a certain diet myself,so I'm always kinda worried about the food in any restaurant! But if you like seafood and especially Salmon.... This is the absolute best Salmon I have ever eaten, (besides my own),hands down!The Salmon itself was huge, bigger salmon steak than I've ever had any where, and the price defiantly does not reflect on the size of the Salmon!you get well more than the money you spend!3rd....The flavor was just amazing, it's like every bite melted in my mouth!May be next time I'll add pictures, I was just not expecting for this place to be this good!i figured for a buffet, it was going to be rather about the same as Golden Corral! Not at all, it was a dining delight! Woww!! What a Fantastic Family Restaurant!! Why have I passed this place on many occasions and never visited before today ?? I have been missing out and you will too if you don’t stop by the Gem!!! From the time I entered, I was greeted with a very warm hello from not one waitress/ hostess but 3! I was seated right away and the waitress was AWESOME ! She checked on my continuously throughout my dining! The food was so good and fresh and full of items to choose from. This is a true statement of “Family dining”. If you want a good hearty breakfast, You Must stop by this place and grab a fresh homemade biscuit, fat back, sausage and gravy, country ham, pork chop, eggs, grits, filet chicken with different types of sausage and a spread of assorted fresh fruit! From the time you enter the restaurant you can feel that the place serves you with love and that you are important to them. As I was leaving and went to pay for my delicious breakfast the cashier and my extremely WONDERFUL waitress says to me, “ Your breakfast was already paid for!” What?? Who??? She secretly pointed to a nice gentleman. I said well, let me thank him and thank you also for the great service with a $20 tip!! I LOVE GREAT SERVICE, I LOVE great FOOD and if you want exactly what I received from Spiros you will make this your “go to” place!
