La Cascada — Restaurant in Hillsboro

Disappointed at these fish tacos, they were absolutely disgusting. I expected real fish, lettuce, tomato, white sauce and REAL FISH like Cod. Instead I got breaded fish sticks the same crap that comes in a bag at Walmart, and some type of sauce on top of these gross breaded fish sticks place in a soft taco, no lettuce, no diced tomatoes and no guacamole or sour cream, however, the lack of toppings aren't the problem, it was the breaded processed fish sticks, and I paid over $20.00 dollars for it. I could have bought 2 bags of those fish sticks at Kroger etc but I will not and do not eat breaded bagged fish, it's terrible food. I don't know if this restaurant is now under new ownership, but a year or two ago I been there a few times and got real unbreaded fish, cod, but today 7/12/25 I got home and saw this pickup order and found bag breaded fish sticks that I cannot eat and tossed it all in the trash. I've been eating fish tacos since my San Diego days in 1986 and these by far were the worst and frankly insulting thinking people arent going to know they are bag breaded fish sticks. What a waste of money. I took this photo and posted it, so if you are still going to order these, here's what your getting. Never again will I go there, take friends there or recommend going there. We went as a large group because my family from out of town really likes La Cascada. As a Hillsboro native, if I hadn’t made the drive for my family there was zero reason to come from Wilmington for subpar Mexican food and poor service. I feel like every time I go to la cascada be it in a large group or just a small group of 2-4 the woman who owns the place is fighting with someone at their table. Lady, your people skills need some work. You opened a restaurant you can’t fight with the customers because you feel entitled or something. Also the food has gone up significantly in price, I understand inflation but it was 6.00 for a small cup of queso with the chips! My chicken tasted like the griddle it been cooked in hadn’t been cleaned in weeks and everything else tasted like onion powder. Other than that no flavor. It’s sad when the best part of your meal is the cup of water and free chips. Back to service, it’s impossible to tell who your server is, not that it matters because you still have to flag someone down for chips and drink refills. Went for lunch. Place wasn't very busy. Food was okay, not big portions.

Wait staff didn't seem to understand that working people on lunch need to get back to work.

Asked for bill, waitress said ok and went to a another table and asked what else they needed. She brought our bill and I asked if I took it to the register and she said yes and said, I'll be right there and walked away. I went to register and waited and another waitress showed up the check us out.

There is something about Hillsboro restaurants. The KFC is out of chicken a lot. The Arby's is out of roast beef sometimes. Bob Evans used to give you unlimited breads rolls or biscuits with dinner. Now it's just biscuits or banana nut bread. Hello not everyone like banana nut bread. The Burger King wouldn't let me add something to my order at the window where you pay. There was no one else in line, said I had to go back around and order at the drive up menu board if I wanted to add something. I did, I drove right around to the Taco Bell menu board and ordered and will not return to BK.
