FROM JUNE 2024: We made reservations over a month ago for our annual trip to Hilton Head. We had never dined here before but we had heard how wonderful it was. From the minute we arrived, the hostess greeted us with a smile and was so sweet to our 11 year old son we had with us. We found out later that the hostess was in fact the owner, Flora. We were seated at a nice table in the dining room. Our server, Alina, came over to give us some ideas of what they offered for children, then gave us the specials of the night. What I thought I was going to order off the menu days ago, was quickly destroyed by one of the specials they were offering. So I decided to try the swordfish. It was cooked with a garlic butter lemon sauce with shitake mushrooms and served with a side of farfalle pasta and tomato sauce. I can't tell you how wonderful this meal was. My wife ordered the cheese ravioli with cream sauce and asparagus and enjoyed hers as well. All in all, we would go back again! We were celebrating my birthday and I can't think of a better place we could have had been on that night. Thank you Flora! We will be back! Hope to see you all soon!
UPDATED NEW OWNERS (SEPTEMBER 2024)
Totally different! Nowhere CLOSE to the same. Different menu, different owners. Not authentic at all. Look, I KNOW Italian, and what is authentic or not. This is not. Sorry. Carbonara not authentic. Caesar salad? Just ok. Nothing great. Chicken dish was NOT tender. It should cut without a knife, like butter. It did not. Very tough. I can appreciate someone trying to continue a name after acquiring it, but in all seriousness and fairness, this place should NOT keep reviews out there that are from the former owners. It's just not a fair assessment of the establishment to patrons. If your product and service is what the people want, need, and desire, they will write their own reviews based on YOUR name. Not someone else's. All in all, I don't think we will be back. The server was sweet, and the people filling up water were always there to fill your glass up. Unfortunately, the service was slow, and we are usually not in a rush to get out the door. Anyway, just an update on a once great...
Read moreI’d like to say Flora’s is back, but that would not recognize the quality, hospitality and overall great vision that the new owners have for Flora’s by Coastal Capri. They’ve kept the original name for now and added what will be the new permanent name. Coastal Capri. We met the sisters who are the new owners and their husbands that are the Chef and head bartender. Their vision for the restaurant is inspiring and the menu is very diverse and offers many great selections. I believe they told us the cuisine is geared around Southern Italian cooking. We talked for quite a long time and when you dine with them please feel free to have them tell you about their story. The food was delicious and the cocktails didn’t disappoint. The Italian Cosmo Martinis were perfect. We had Grilled Shrimp on greens for an appetizer. Meals were Vitello Peperonata and Linguini Shrimp Basiilica. Dessert consisted of Tiramisu and Cannoli in a Martini Glass. All were outstanding and the portions were abundant and cooked to perfection. The bread and dips that preceded the meal were hot and original. Flora’s By Coastal Capri is a must go and will not disappoint. We went in the middle of the week in what we consider the early part of the “off season” and it was full. With the new menu and new owners we will be sure to make Flora’s by Coastal Capri a regular visit...
Read moreHorrendous service and would receive zero stars were it not for the food being of decent quality. We were a party of two, rudely “greeted” by Flora in a restaurant that was only half full. Flora (the hostess/owner) seemed highly annoyed that my colleague and I (both dressed nicely, in town for a professional physician conference) were even there. Flora said there would be a minimum 20 minute wait to be seated (mind you, there were no other waiting patrons and the restaurant was nowhere near capacity).
When we were finally seated, we were ignored for nearly 30 minutes before receiving water. We finally received bread, and our waitres came over and haughtily said, “I have a very small window to take your order since I need to get to them!” (a party of 6 that was seated after us). She made it very evident that our small party of two was a huge inconvenience. We were also never checked on after the food arrived and had to request our check after finished eating.
The rudeness from Flora and literally every other staff member was unacceptable. The only, ONLY redeeming value to this restaurant was that the food was decent, but nothing stellar. Stay far away from Floras Italian Cafe , unless you like verbal abuse, snooty looks and being ignored. Honestly, I wish we would have asked for a refund as the service was...
