Travelers beware: My husband, traveling alone, checked into the Red Roof Inn on Hilton Head Island, SC on April 3rd around 3pm. Everything looked fine in the room, so he left to go to dinner with some friends. When he returned around 8:30pm and turned down the bed, he found dirty sheets. Housekeeping had made the bed with the sheets being left dirty!! He went downstairs to the front desk to inquire about getting clean sheets. The front desk attendant (an older lady) was very nice, apologized, and gave him the clean sheets. But since housekeeping had gone for the day, he had to put them on the bed himself!! The rest of the room seemed, fine with the exception of some gnats (or some other type of small fly) and the hot water coming out of the sink being brown (briefly). When he told me about his experience the next evening, and as he is not one to address issues, I called the front desk. The first person (a young man) answering the phone listened to my complaint and then put me on hold. Another person then picked up the phone and asked if she could help. I gave her the information I had given the first person. She then proceeded to tell me that this is a budget hotel (the rating is 3 ½ to 4 stars, so I don’t consider this budget), that they are short staffed, and that housekeeping goes home at 5:00pm. She did apologize and explain that they had changed the boiler that day or the day before and that may be why the water coming out of the shower was brown. She also told me that he could check out if he wanted to (? the room was prepaid). I told her everything around there was booked and he had nowhere to go. These are adequate explanations/suggestions, but there is no excuse for someone making up a bed with dirty sheets when the room is going to be occupied by a new customer!! I believe the Manager was there at the desk with her, but did not offer any compensation, which is what I feel would have been the right thing to do. ||This hotel is in a great location, right next to Shelter Cove Marina, but we will never stay there again!! ||I booked the room through Priceline, whom I also called with my complaint, as I thought they ought to know what type of issues we encountered at this hotel. The customer service person was nice and sympathetic but said there was nothing she could do about...
Read moreTwo words BED BUGS. There should be a ZERO star option, especially with this place being located exactly in Hilton head island. I actually have an rewards account with red roof, so please don't let this location speak for all red roofs, because I've stayed at many clean and reputable ones such as the one in Jacksonville, FL. I had made reservations at this location in Hilton head island for me and my family to stay at (two adults, two children) so that we could enjoy our vacation while being in close range to Coligny Beach Park (this red roof is about a 11-14 minute drive to there depending on traffic). We are not high maintenance but we do expect a certain level of cleanliness, especially with this whole COVID-19 pandemic. Like the other negative reviews on here, our bedroom wasn't the cleanest, especially the bathroom and it was pretty outdated as well. Also we noticed someone had cut the phone line connection and clock which was very odd. However, since we had checked in after 6pm since we decided to go straight to the beach, we were tired and ready to lay down (our 4 year old and 10 year old were especially ready to call it a night). The beds were very uncomfortable and the AC wasn't blowing properly at all so the room was slightly humid. Around 11:30 at night, my husband felt something bite him and when he got up and examined the area he was laying on - he discovered TWO bed bugs on there. We immediately packed all of our stuff with two exhausted kids back into our car, not caring if we did have to sleep in the car for the rest of the night because there was no way in heck we were going to sleep in that room or any other rooms since clearly the chance of the whole hotel being infested is pretty high! As soon as I told the clerk at the front desk the situation, and that I even took a picture that she could see - she immediately started the refund process, no questions asked, and gave me the contact information of the manager. This made me assume that this isn't the first time this has happened with a customer. I will be contacting corporate as well as the manager of the inn about this. Luckily, we were able to find a beautiful and clean hotel that still had a room available since it was almost at midnight, so our...
Read moreWe stayed at this location during our first ever visit to Hilton Head Island. It will not be our last. We were greeted at check-in by the hotel manager, Mike. He was professional, courteous, & attentive. His leadership was evident in every way -- from manning the desk, to surveying the property ahead of a forecast hurricane, to personally checking in with us to ask whether our car was secure & in a safe area ahead of the storm. Our room was clean, comfortable, and accommodating to us & our pup. I am obsessive about cleaning & clean every hotel room I book before settling in or unpacking. Angel & Emilia (sp?) cleaned the room so well that when I went over surfaces with Lysol wipes, the cloths remained white & clean! The sheets were clean & fresh, the mattress was firm & comfortable, & for the first time ever, I took a shower in a place -- other than my own home -- without shower shoes. It was apparent that Angel & Emilia take immense pride in their work. Everyone we encountered was friendly -- whether they were other patrons or staff. Leadership means so much to the inner workings of an organization -- Mike is a leader in every sense. As soon as the storm passed, he was out & about this morning, surveying whether there was any damage, orchestrating the clean-up of debris, & making sure guests were well. I am a professional who works remotely. Our room had adequate dedicated space for professional projects & was comfortable enough to relax in when I closed my laptop. Their pet policy is incredible as well. My pup is a skittish rescue who made so many well-behaved canine friends! We were impressed with every single amenity & the staff's collective attention to detail. Breakfast is not served onsite, but this location is in proximity to a ton of eating options, many of which are in walking distance, if you are so inclined to take a stroll. This trip was truly relaxing for us -- so much so that we are booking a return in October & for Christmas. If you've read this far -- my apologies for the length of this review -- there are so many aspects of our stay that I wanted to rave about & there aren't sufficient compliments to pay...
