My wife and I went to Okko on a Saturday evening with some friends. For us it might have been the wrong evening to visit as the restaurant was almost entirely populated by 20 year olds and we are much older. This would have been fine if the music playing wasn't so loud it actually hurt ear drums. Surprisingly the main 2 or 3 rooms almost totally emptied by 8 pm, but I believe their was a party going on in a room out of view. I was hoping to eat Chinese food, but quickly saw the offerings were Szegewan, not Mandarin meaning - extremely spicy. It's from Northern China vs Southern China. Our friends ordered Chinese food and verified it was "hot"! My wife and I had sushi and special rolls made of rice and various raw fish. The fish was very fresh and very good as sushi and in the rolls. However, the rice below the fish on every piece of sushi - fell off in our hands. Also the sushi chef's who didn't look like they had many years of experience, did not put wasabi between the rice and fish. I had not seen sushi served this way and have been eating sushi for over 30 years. Our friends went back on a week night and told us the crowd was of all ages and the music subdued. They had Hibachi steak meals and enjoyed them. I would say to try Okko as there is a good chance you'll find something you'll enjoy. Their bar area is very nice looking as is the entire restaurant.

08/3/23 6:51PM. I ordered a STEAK AND CHICKEN hibachi as you can see the paper with the order. I’m extremely allergic to shrimp and apparently if you order a STEAK AND CHICKEN hibachi, will come 2 pieces of shrimp with it without they even telling you about it and as my order said is STEAK AND CHICKEN hibachi and does not include shrimp. I tried to call twice and explain the situation but the worker that picked up the phone was super rude and said she would check if I could change my food (even that was her fault for not telling about the shrimp), she left me on hold for 5 minutes because she was checking if I could change the food. When she came back saying she told me they couldn’t do anything to fix that, so I asked to speak with the manager and she claimed to be the manager even that she spent 5 minutes asking someone (probably the real manager) about the exchange and said she couldn’t do anything for me. By the end, they didn’t change my food and said they could place another order but I would have to pay for it. Cmoooon OKKO, you guys are a big restaurant!! It’s not that fixing a mistake you guys made that will ruin your business because of a hibachi meal. 30$ for a meal I couldn’t eat, awesome! Not counting that I left a fat tip for her for this service back 👍🏼

This review is for Vivi whom we miss A LOT but also to Gracious and Kind Jack the Hibachi Chef, Angela the ultimate bar tender , Anna the professional Server , and the BEST hostesses on The Island: Julie , Kaylee, Maria , and Lydia ! THIS restaurant is well run! It’s the best well run restaurant we’ve seen for a long time! They treat the locals with care , and the tourists too! Food is DELICIOUS, and served perfect whether Sushi side or Hibachi side! Drinks perfect. We love this restaurant, and want to keep it a secret 🤗😉❣️ A shout out to the entire staff too as watching them bus and clean is an incredible oiled machine ! We usually go to the sushi tables, and the Servers are AMAZING!! We see that employees are loyal , and seem to stay a long while ! Managers must be good. Other restaurants could learn from this one! Anyway , YUM and FUN ❣️I had scallops and calamari tonight but we usually get Sushi and Thai . My husband had steak but usually gets fish. You can’t go wrong! Plenty of parking and they go out of their way to please !

Okko has a nice atmosphere inside the restaurant which is the only redeeming factor of our second time there. The bar is a decent size and the bartenders are prompt to respond to customers. We were seated 30ish minutes after our reservation, no problem, but our waitress took another 15ish to come to our table and give us menus and another 15ish to take our drink orders. Still, no problem, it is what it is. We receive our drinks and then sushi appetizers pretty prompt thereafter and the sushi was good, not great, but good enough to recommend to others. The dinner orders are taken about 15ish-20ish minutes after this and we didn't get to order another set of drinks until dinner came out.

The dinner was abysmal. 3 Hibachi dishes were so cold that we asked if they keep the chicken and steak in the refrigerator. Being that we were hungry, we just said please nuke our $30 meals so they are at least warm. They did and they must have dropped the vegetables on the way back to the table because all three lost their veggies and had the meat of choice + rice only. Whatever. Just brush it off. Two of the three are still cold after being nuked. Whatever. Just eat it. The three other dishes arrive for our other guests; sushi was good for the one, Mongolian chicken was decent but the Pad Thai (which was asked to be extra spicy) was INEDIBLE. It was (and I hate saying this) disgusting. We had literally one bite out of it and told them we didn't want it. Pad Thai is my (and one of my other guests) favorite Thai meals and when I say it was borderline dog food, I am being nice. It tasted as if someone took overcooked noodles and dipped it in orange chicken sauce. The texture/flavor was revolting. Sorry, but it was. They were kind enough to knock the meal off the bill and take it back, but said guest did not have any dinner.

We have no idea what the waitresses name was as she never introduced herself and only came by a handful of times. I can't see myself returning to this establishment as it was by -far- the worst $300 meal I have ever had. I am giving it two stars as the bartenders were nice and it was a pleasant environment. Extremely...

CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS GARBAGE!!!! Kate had an attitude from the beginning of the phone call. In fact, she hung up on me while I was placing my order. When I called back and stated that she hung up on me, she replied "Mmhmm!" Red flag 🚩 but I proceeded and finished placing my order. We get there and the attitude continues. Kate is mad because we want to check the order. She says that she has already checked it and sarcastically added "but you don't trust me!" and rudely slung the bag of food on the table. However, there was a problem with the order which we couldn't resolve due to her VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Other customers came in who appeared to be regulars and she laughed and treated them as all customers should be treated. As I told Kate, my money is just as green and my card swipes the same. Maybe she doesn't like tourists, I don't know. What I do know is that her attitude needs to change. I asked for a supervisor, she insisted that no manager or supervisor was there. So I asked to speak to another employee (since they are all "equal" and have the same authority) with customer service skills. She told me that I could cancel the transaction BUT then she ignored us and refused to void it. Thankfully, another employee stepped in and voided the transaction. He also gave me a phone number to reach the owner. I have left a message and I am definitely expecting a call back to discuss this VERY UNPLEASANT experience. Kate's attitude and treatment was callous and inhumane.

REGRETFULLY I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANYONE!!!! AWFUL!!! RUINED THE REST...

If I could give less than one star, I would. I went into this establishment with the highest of hopes but, unfortunately, was met with poor customer service, lackluster food and food quality, and overall left feeling as if I was treated less than human. Food portions are small and prepared incorrectly (based on if you've ever been to any other authentic hibachi restaurant). When questioned about the preparation, our chef flat out decided to no longer do a good job and stopped "entertaining" us as he did before. Afterwards, I noticed our chef not-so-discretely discussing us to our server. Immediately after that our server brought us our check and to-go bowls (more or less putting us out). While reviewing the check I noticed they automatically charged 20% gratuity for a party of TWO (unheard of). I went to the front to question the gratuity charge and was chased down by the waiter as if I was trying to "dine-and-dodge". The front clerk and the waiter explained that 20% gratuity is charged on ALL hibachi tabs, which isn't advertised ANYWHERE. We live and we learn. I paid the tab and left but figured I would do my part and forewarn others that you can definitely do better when it comes to dining in Hilton Head. Spend your money at establishments that appreciate your dollar and you as a customer versus places that try to capitalize on hotel resort location as a means to provide less than professional customer service and...
