This restaurant ended up being a huge disappointment. We went here after reading reviews and knowing they had outside seating on the water. The view and outside seating were about the only two good things about this place. The other positive was the man playing music while we were there. He was really good and the live music was nice. Now for the bad. The food is way overpriced with small portions. My family loves to go to the beach and we completely understand that you pay a premium for beach food, but this was a bit ridiculous. My son wanted the fried seafood platter but it was $25. We decided to split it with the hopes of having enough food for the both of us. We also ordered a Caesar salad to go along with it. We had to wait a very long time for our food, our server was not very attentive and left our small glasses of water empty for most of the time we spent waiting for the food. When we were seated we asked for 2 children's menus and only received one small pack of crayons. Anyone with multiple children can guess where this went. My boys were both fighting over the orange crayon. It was an easy fix, i assumed, so I asked our server for another small box of crayons but she never brought it. I ended up having to get up and go to the waitress stand myself in order to stop the arguing. She also said she would bring us refills for our water and check on our food, but I don't think she did either of those either. Finally, when the food finally came out, we were dismayed with the small portions of food. The kids meals actually seemed bigger than the adult meals. Our $25 seafood platter consisted of one fried piece of fish, 3 fried shrimp, 3 fried scallops, a stuffed crab, a handful of fries and a tablespoon of slaw. We got as much slaw as we did tartar sauce. Maybe they thought we would use the slaw as a condiment? The food was good, and hot (thank God), but not worth what we paid. The kids meals were $7 a piece and did not come with a drink. We paid $7 for a plain hotdog and some fries, the same amount we paid for the kids popcorn shrimp meal. My husband got the Fried Shrimp Po' Boy, which was $14, and nothing to write home about. I guess if you go there knowing that you are paying for the view and atmosphere more than the food...
Read moreWorst experience I've ever had. I would give 0 stars if I could. While our server was nice, the food was good and the setting was nice, we watched one of the other servers coughing in his hand many times, while carrying people's drinks. He was also wiping his nose with his hand before serving people their food and checks. Never saw him leave the floor to wash his hands.
I brought this to the managers attention, quietly, I'm not one to make a scene, only to be offered a few excuses. 1) The old guy? Yeah we've talked to him several times. Okay but he's still doing it. Nevermind that there is a pandemic and he's not wearing a mask, it's basic hygiene and food safety. 2) well he has a condition, he doesn't have COVID or anything. Okay, we'll go with that, but there is no reason to not practice the same hygiene they we teach our kids. He can cough into his elbow and he can wash his hands. 3) We do things a little different around here. I've heard enough, clearly you don't care. They seem to be operating with a COVID chip on their shoulder and not concerned about basic food safety and hygiene.
Our server was concerned about why you we wanted to talk to the manager. We gave the quick explanation. She knew exactly what we were talking about. She was the only one that apologized. To top off the night, apparently the manager had mentioned something to the server. As we were paying our bill, he went to his newly seated table and waved his hand around and pointed at our table several times. Then as he passed by our table, did a floor to ceiling to floor wipe of his face.
Writing bad reviews is not my style. I think it's the first time I've ever complained to a manager. It's uncomfortable. Honestly, had the manager seemed to care at all, I wouldn't have considered writing this. I would have just considered it an anomaly....
Read moreIts weird for me to 5 star across the board normally on a place like this cause there is always "better" right? Well...my wife and I came here 2 times in as many days, sat in opposite sides of the place, had the same amazing waiter, and the same incredible dishes that were even BETTER the second time around!
While you can definable dump a ton more somewhere else in Hilton Head...this place is a gem. Its got a great patio and perfect noise/size ratio to where I never had to shout to talk but still could hear and enjoy the live music from the one man band.
My wife got the fish and chips, which is normally my go to, and it was such a great change of pace. From the batter to the seasoning on the fish...it blew us both away. Makes me forget what real southern style fish is supposed to be like!
Lately, I have been on this weird scallop kick. I am in sales and part of my job is entertaining and having way too much steak and way to nice of places. So after I just burned out on steaks...scallops are rich but not too heavy...especially when you do it a lot. Honestly, my expectations were in the dirt as they weren't pan seared but baked scallops which can for sure be hit and miss IMO. Turns out, they might be the best I have ever had outside two nights before when I had them the first time. Absolutely incredible. I would come back to HH...just to eat them again. In all honesty, we came back to put the place...in its place as we were sure it was a fluke. NOPE. That good.
So if your ever out in Hilton Head and your looking for a fair price with INCREDIBLE food. Look no further than Scott's.
We went there cause its funny(obviously the name) but we left super fans. Can't wait for another shot at those baked beauties!
And last...service rocked! We...
