Shake Shack Derby Street Shops — Restaurant in Hingham

The new Shake Shack in Hingham is initially what you would expect a fast food establishment to look like in an upscale town. This seemingly high standard was shattered right after placing my order.

Ordering: Easy enough with the automatic systems. Nothing negative to say about it.

Timeliness: This is when things go south. From time of order to food being ready took over 20 minutes. The business had about 12 people in the dining room, most of which had their food already.

Food: For my first order I ordered the 6 piece chicken bites with shake shack sauce, French fries, and a chocolate peppermint shake. The shake was on par for what it was described, a tasty treat amidst a plate of what turned out to be dismal and disappointing. The chicken bites were fairly bland and parts of the batter were still soft and not very crispy. They might have tasted better drowned in the shake shack sauce, if they hadn't run out of it and failed to update the order form. The crinkle cut fries were definitely frozen and equal to buying a bag from the supermarket and frying them up at home, nothing special except for the excessive amount of salt added to mask the mediocrity.

Staff: These poor kids seem to have no direction or supervision. Half the staff were on their cellphones in the dining area...maybe they don't have a break room, which is definitely a management issue. Speaking of management, there didn't seem to be a distinct supervisor working to organize this trainwreck.

Communication was also lacking between the front of the house and the kitchen as when I asked the girl at the counter about the shake shack sauce, she had no idea they were out until speaking with one of the line cooks.

In conclusion, this Shake Shack is mediocre at best and definitely not up to the same standard as other eateries in the Derby Street Shops. My advice, save some money and go to Chic Fil A ten minutes down the road for a...

Just had the worst experience I've ever had coming to this location.

Ordered my food on the tablet as always and stood waiting for my food in sight of the staff.

While it was busy I watched each order filing out. I got my text and waited a bit closer to the counter to get called. Still in sight of the staff.

At one point I thought I saw my food get put over at the online/app pick up section. So I went over there. Said I got a text my food was ready and asked if the woman could check if my food was placed over in this section by accident.

She was very dismissive and told me "We will call you when you're food is ready." And walked away from me, not bothering to check.

I sat there a total of 20 minutes. Waiting. Knowing my food was exactly where I asked the staff to check. I didn't want to cause a scene of course and keep asking the busy staff to check.

Someone else on the staff team noticed me standing there for awhile. Went to check the online/app pickup area. And what do you know? My food was there.

I told the woman giving me my food that I had sat there 20 minutes AND had asked someone to check.

All I was offered was a lame "I know I'm sorry I dont know why it was over there."

No offer to remake the food. Nothing. Food was cold.

I understand it was busy. But I had asked for someone to check there already. The fact i was ignored. And I got cold food. Is really frustrating.

Everything was just okay, that was about it. I ordered the black truffle burger, black truffle fries, and a chocolate shake. I wasn't expecting a gourmet, Michelin star burger but i did expect it to be more than edible. The burger patties didn't any real discernable flavor, I personally don't think there was nearly enough of the truffle sauce on the burger (especially considering the up-charge that accompanied the burger) and honestly, nothing really tasted fresh. The fries were okay, kind of soggy, but not terrible, and once again, there was not enough of the truffle sauce to accompany them. The chocolate shake was alright at best; it tasted more like a vanilla shake with chocolate sauce added in rather than a shake made with chocolate ice cream. Overall, it was a woefully disappointing experience. Aside from the food, the establishment seemed clean, and the employees were doing their jobs with a pleasant demeanor. My only complaint, aside from the food, was that the music was a bit too loud for my taste but that may not matter as much to others. All together, I'd be generous to give a 4/10.
