We recently dined at Legal Sea Foods in Hingham and had an overall enjoyable experience, but there were a few notable hiccups that I feel are worth mentioning. First, the restaurant was clearly short-staffed, and we appreciated the hard work of the team, doing their best to keep things moving smoothly. We were patient with the delays and understood the situation, but one aspect of the meal was a bit frustrating—the lack of timing when it came to the pacing of our courses.
We placed our entire order at once, and within five minutes, we were served our appetizers. However, shortly after, we were brought our salads, and then, around 10 minutes later, our main courses arrived. The result? Our table was crowded with different courses all at once—appetizers, salads, and entrees all sitting there, making it difficult to enjoy the meal in a more traditional, relaxed order.
While we understand that things can get hectic during busy times, especially when staff numbers are limited, the lack of coordination in timing was a bit disruptive. Based on this experience, I’d highly recommend placing your order for food as you need it rather than relying on the kitchen or servers to manage the flow of the meal.
Despite this, the food itself was excellent, and the quality of the seafood, as always, lived up to Legal’s reputation. I’d still recommend the restaurant, but perhaps with the understanding that you may need to advocate for a more measured approach to course delivery, especially if the restaurant is busy.
In summary: great food, but be prepared for potential timing issues if the restaurant is understaffed....
Read moreLegal Seafood is one of my favorite restaurants. I think the food is great and they have a good wine list.
There’s a couple of things about this particular location that i wish were better. My wife and I like to sit at the bar and the bartenders, for the most part, have been consistently congenial and friendly in Hingham. The last year, however, the place doesn’t feel as welcoming. Not unfriendly but more like the people working there aren’t enjoying their jobs. And not everyone, but some. Enough to effect the experience.
The other issue, which admittedly is a nit pick, is indicative of the aforementioned observation. The issue is with a particular special recently. The special was a fish and chips deal for every Friday in November. I love fish and chips, and especially at Legal’s, so my wife and I planned to go right after work every Friday in November. The first Friday the bartender wasn’t sure if the special was for lunch or at all times but gave it to us. I checked the advertisement and there was no mention of limitations, so we went again the following Friday. Same experience except this time the bartender inquired with the manager. We got the discount, but honestly it was off putting. The next two Fridays we went to the Legal’s in Braintree to avoid the drama and both times we were offered the special! The service was more friendly and welcoming too - which is what I am used to.
Please Hingham Legal Seafood, get back to the standard that Braintree and other Legal’s locations are providing, and what my wife and I are used to experiencing at...
Read moreNormally I never write a negative review but I was just so disappointed in the staff today. I brought my friend in because the lobster wrap is to die for! The wrap did not disappoint but the lack of service made the whole experience not as great as it could have been. Our waiter, #94532 I won't write his name, came over and asked us if we wanted an appetizer. How about, Welcome to Legals would you like a drink? Then we waited a while after ordering our drinks before he came back asking if we were ready to order. Another waiter brought us our food and asked if we needed anything, he was great! Our waiter never came over and asked if we needed anything or to even ask how our food was. He finally came back and asked if i wanted my food wrapped up, i said yes please and he asked if i wanted the fries too, yes i do please. Ive never been asked that before. He then asked if we wanted dessert, we declined and I asked for the bill. He kept walking by the table so I put my credit card on the end of the table. He walked by again and said oh your done, left and came back with the check. I have always tipped 20% if not more, mistakes happen, waiters get busy, but there was no excuse for the lack of interest with us. Then to get home, open up my leftovers to put in the frig to find out I never got my fries!!!!! I honestly may not go back, $100 for 2 people for a late lunch and to have such bad service I won't be...
