I was thoroughly disappointed in the way I was treated at this establishment and HIGHLY request that they consider disability training with their staff.
I had a trained service animal necessary for my daily function in a clearly labeled vest. Immediately upon entering they told me he could not be in here. I apologized for inconvenience but told them I cannot be separated from him. They asked for “identification” which is not required by law. They asked why I have him with me. I am not required to disclose my disability. I gave them an Americans with Disabilities act card and ordered my food and drink, tipping 25%. My service dog laid calmly at my side the whole time. They asked “to go?” I apologized and said I’d be working there. And they said “we have an outdoor area for that.” Not only is it cold and the middle of February, but I let them know I needed an outlet and rather than letting me sit where I chose, though there were many seats open in the large establishment, they told me to sit in the very back corner, even moving a customer to do so.
When they called my name for food I was not allowed to go to the counter to pick it up, they belittled me by forcing me to stay seated because they didn’t want myself and my dog approaching the counter.
I wanted nothing less then to leave and not support this business any further, but I stayed to work in order to show them a service animal has every right to be in an establishment. Toast laid quietly under the table for the 3 hours we spent here, sitting up once to perform a task. We did not...
Read moreWhile I liked the food, my experience was very unpleasant. I first ordered a croissant sandwich, and then my order was messed up. Which I didn’t mind, I understand it happens. I asked politely if they can fix it and they did. But once I sat down the owner continuously came outside to watch me. (I am a minor and of color & I’m not the only one he’s done this to as my friends who are minors as well, said it happened to them on a different occasion as well) But then after continuously walking in and outside, he just stood a few feet away from me and pretended to be on his phone while I was sitting trying to eat. This made me very uncomfortable and I was unable to enjoy my break from work and even went back early because of him. Then as soon as I got up to leave the owner went back inside so it was very obvious he was watching me, not to mention everyone else around wasn’t a poc. This behavior was very inappropriate and unacceptable, and I was pretty disappointed because I actually liked to come to the cafe but I don’t want to support a racist or possibly something else. Not to mention the prices (especially of the add ons to drinks) and the coffee...
Read moreThe definition of a hidden gem!!! I didn’t even know this place existed until it was recommended to me by a coworker. Hidden in a small corner nestled by the light rail is this monument to delicious and chill vibes. The sandwiches are Devine, with so many unique flavors, and also a new Sandwich of the Month added monthly. The coffee is also fantastic, and the addition of a bag of chips with every sandwich is a great deal. However, the best part of Black Rail is the staff 🥰 They are so kind and always give the most amazing service! The two owners are so friendly and love to socialize and talk which feels so good! The space itself also has an amazing aesthetic! Cozy, cool, and comfy, truly the trifecta of a good time! Can’t give this place...
