Definitely contemplated for a bit whether or not to share my experience here after seeing how defensive Hudson Table is when replying to negative reviews..
I attended a birthday party here. The menu was Thai (chosen by the person throwing the party). There were maybe around 20-25 people and everyone had to pay $125.
I’ll start with the staff -
The chef, AJ, was kind and knowledgeable. He started with introducing himself and sharing his background and also instructed us all to do an icebreaker (not a huge fan of that, it wasn’t a room of strangers it was a birthday party lol). He gave us nice tidbits about how to hold a knife, what his favorite herbs are, and general cooking knowledge.
He had two girls helping him. They did not introduce themselves so I do not know their names. Honestly, these two were the ones who made most of us not enjoy this experience. I was absolutely disgusted in the beginning while Chef AJ was doing his demo and one of the girls was standing right behind him and eating snacks and licking her fingers. Just straight up sticking her fingers in her mouth knowing full well we could see her. Kinda made me nauseated just watching.
The other girl had the most horrible attitude I’d ever encountered - she was generally annoyed by everyone’s existence. For instance, we added dressing to our salad (the instructions didn’t say to keep it on the side and even if it did…. Not the biggest culinary faux pas) and when she saw that she gave the biggest eye roll and sigh. She would walk around and snatch the knives out of our hands and cut things for us instead of asking if we wanted advice. Even the people in our group who are so easy going and never pay attention to things like this were confused by her behavior. She also tried to take a hot pan away from my boyfriend in the middle of us trying to finish cooking chicken? She wanted to turn the burner off but the chicken wasn’t even halfway done?? She also NEVER used manners - no please or thank you if she wanted us to grab something for her. She looked at my boyfriend and pointed to a bowl behind him and gave a “give it to me” motion. When she was arranging the tables and chairs later she was throwing and banging things - I really don’t know what caused her to behave this way the entire time.
Onto the experience - paying $125 and getting a 10 min demo and only getting to chop some veggies and sautee some chicken kinda sucks. We had 6 people at our table. I cut cabbage, another cut garlic, another cut carrots, you get the idea. Then only one person from our group got to go “make” the pad Thai, only one person from our group went to grill the chicken satay, and one person from our group got to sautée chicken. I was really looking forward to this event. I’ve wanted to try Hudson Table for a few years now. I’m upset that the most I got to do was chop some vegetables and sautee some chicken.
They also did not have enough room for everyone to sit down and enjoy. We had to make 3 or 4 extra spots and could barely move.
Unfortunately I can’t recommend this experience for the setting we did it in. I came into this experience with an open mind - not looking to give a negative review. But everyone that day...
Read moreFollow-Up Complaint Regarding Mishandling of Gift Voucher and Unprofessional Response
Dear Hudson Table Management,
I am following up to formally express my concern regarding a $180 gift voucher that my wife and I originally received several years ago. At the time, we attempted to book a class in early 2020, but due to the pandemic, the event was canceled. We were then reassured—via both email and phone conversations—that the value of our purchase would remain valid indefinitely and that we could rebook once conditions normalized. We were never advised of a strict expiration timeline, and we were told the voucher could be used “at any time.”
Over the past few years, our lives became understandably busy—raising two children, relocating, and dealing with the long-term impact of COVID. This summer, we finally made time to revisit Hudson Table and redeem what we believed was still an active credit. To our surprise, we were informed that the voucher was no longer valid, and that the one-year grace period to rebook had long passed.
This directly contradicts the original guidance we received, which led us to believe there was no urgency to redeem the voucher. Had we been informed otherwise, we would have taken the appropriate action to use it within the specified window.
Furthermore, when I reached out to discuss the situation and requested some form of accommodation, I was met with an unnecessarily dismissive and condescending tone. Instead of engaging with my concern in good faith, your team responded by correcting my grammar and essentially blaming us for the delay, despite years of previous contact and confirmation of voucher validity.
Update in response to your message below: The message we received from your team reads:
“Unfortunately, this is on you… 4 years as you can probably one day agree, is a bit excessive… We don’t appreciate you calling us a ‘crooks bunch of crooks’ but we wish you the best of luck.”
While I regret the use of strong language in a moment of frustration, your response was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. Rather than addressing the issue respectfully, your focus was on deflecting blame and correcting my grammar, which is both inappropriate and unhelpful. The core of my concern remains: your staff explicitly stated that the voucher had no expiration, and that it would remain usable due to the pandemic-related cancellation. That commitment was not honored.
I respectfully ask that you reconsider this matter and offer a fair resolution. At minimum, a credit in the amount of $180 to be used toward a future event would reflect good customer service and...
Read moreI held my 40th Birthday dinner here and was very disappointed with how things went. I wish I went with a different venue. I booked this venue on 2/6/22 for a 7/30/22 event. I spent over $10,000 on decor, my cakes, the venue and wine and beer. I was expecting to provide a unique experience to my guest.
At 1pm on the day of my event, I was emailed and told that the AC was not working and the area was “quite warm”. They said they would provide fans and place tables and chairs on the patio at no extra charge. (..as if I asked for this) It was also stated that the owner has graciously gifted me champagne. At 1pm, I had all the alcohol that I needed for my event. I didn’t want champagne.
It was almost 90 degrees outside. Upon arrival, it wasn’t quite warm. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable. They only had 2 fans blowing in a literal kitchen. They also don’t have a patio. They put 2 tables and about 8 chairs outside in the alley next to their building. An alley that had random people walking by the tables with dogs and people on scooters. This was not the experience that I paid all this money for.
I purchased two cakes for my event. On both cakes the bakery placed a label that said that they should be eaten at room temperature. It was so hot, that the cakes couldn’t be left out. They were served cold and weren’t the way they should have been served. One cake was supposed to be on display the entire time.I waisted money paying for a display stand for it. It couldn’t stay out to the temperature.
My menu was finalized on 7/24/22 and included sorbet, fruit, tea and coffee for my guest. My guest did not receive any sorbet, fruit, tea or coffee.
My event designer ordered flowers, candles, plates, and cutlery for 35 guest to sit at 5 tables. When the florist arrived to set up, I was informed that it was only 4 tables arranged in the room to be decorated. This forced my guest to sit closer together. I wasted money purchasing items for 5 tables. Due to the heat, my designer did not place as many candles out that she ordered to minimize extra heat. More money that I wasted due to the venue’s lack of air.
I couldn’t enjoy the food as much as I wanted to. It was way too hot. I basically drank most of the night to try to keep cool.
The day after my event the owner sent an email stating that he’s refunding $300 for the inconvenience of the temperature. This is pretty insulting. I responded with a list of issues and it’s been over 48 hours and I haven’t received a response. I definitely won’t ever consider spending my...
