We went to this place with a group of 19 adults. Around 6 PM. At this point, there about total 25 ppl in the entire bar (basically a few more than us ). For the next 20 minutes, no one bothered to come and take our order. Following that when we asked/questioned the bartender was not happy (god knows why) and took forever to come to us. Even after we started drinking, he was hardly paying attention to us even if we were walking up to the bar asking for anything. He often would walk around at bar ignoring me and my colleagues too and go chit chat with others and his co-workers. At end of night, around 11 pm, when my colleagues asked him if you can give fireball shot, he said no, then we asked if he can give Jägermeister shots, he said he doesn't have it too. Then suddenly someone asked about Jameson shot and he said that's how you are supposed to drink, telling us what we ordered was inappropriate, asking for liquor shots is absurd. Furthermore, he was like "who asks for liquor shots at this time". Who the heck (you know which word I really meant) is he to decide what shots are absurd versus what are appropriate??? If he did not have enough Jägermeister, why didn't he simply say it so instead of insulting us. Anyway, this was my first and my last time coming here, and I am sure my followers will appreciate my honest feedback. One star for SOMA IPA!

We hosted a Celebration Dinner for our Senior Players at the Shepherd and the Knucklehead. Looking for a large group to have a dinner at on a Saturday evening is tough especially when you don’t know the area. The owner was amazing from the beginning. Joe was quick to respond when I had questions and very helpful in picking the amount of food I needed to order. Everyone loved the delicious food and some of our group got there early and pre-partied, apparently the sweet potato fries are wonderful. The staff was friendly and professional! The loud atmosphere(it’s a bar after all) made presentation part of evening tough to hear, yet the staff was kind and turned the music off during the presentation which helped a bit. If you are looking for a place to host an event with great food and service The Shepherd & the Knucklehead is a wonderful option.

The Shep is the perfect location for hosting your private events! Our family celebrated our son's first birthday party here as we needed a venue that could well accommodate 77 people. I cannot rave enough about the flexibility in crafting your personalized menu, the friendliness of the staff, the ability to decorate the entire restaurant to accommodate your theme, and overall satisfaction in the food and beverages of the day. Leading up to the event, the owner was extremely helpful in selecting tray sizes for the number of people we had attending the event. During the event the owner and the rest of the staff would check in with us frequently to ensure we had everything we needed. They also were extremely accommodating for specific dish we needed for dietary restrictions. I look forward to hosting many future events at this location.

This is the ideal spot in Uptown Hoboken to catch a game given that it's in an excellent location, is a well-kept bar, has excellent sports bar food/a huge range of options, and has NFL Sunday Ticket to catch any of the games that are on. The beer options are definitely very good for a typical sports bar.

My review would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the absentee service that I have gotten almost every time I've been here for the last 3 years of living in Uptown Hoboken. Trying to get the attention of the one and only server that they usually have working is a tough task, so unless I'm looking to sit with nothing for 30 minutes+ I more often than not I have to order food or drinks by coming right up to the bar. If I'm looking to get a certain game put on I will also need to remind them a few times other wise they'll only have the Jets and Giants on almost all of the 20+ TVs.

I'd say that they should probably have more consistent staff on hand, but it seems like the 1-3 people that are usually working are focused more on larger groups or people that are clearly regulars/know the staff. If I go in solo/with a small group it feels like I'm asking for a favor by ordering another drink or having the channel flipped to a different game. From reading the other reviews on here I know that management may say "this isn't like us" in response, but unless we're talking about pre-2019 service, I'm not sure we can say it's a coincidence.

But other than the strange service that I've seen the last few years, overall a...

I am cutting this place a little slack because it's week 2 but as of right now, pure amateur hour. Considering this isn't their first location, I'm being extra generous.

I live in Weehawken right across the bridge so I was hoping to finally having a local craft beer bar in walking distance. Now, I'm thinking probably not.

  1. Menu notes "VIP Hoboken residents coming soon!" Guess they don't care about my business and think there's going to be tons of tourists coming besides it being nowhere near the PATH.

  2. It's week 2 and I saw many taps finished without being replaced. Extra worse considering they don't sell bottles.

  3. It's a craft beer bar but sizes are based on pricing rather than ABV (even though they aren't advertising "all beers $7 or less" or whatever it is).

  4. It's craft a beer bar but no good descriptions or RBV/BA ratings.

  5. It's a craft beer bar but bartenders don't seem to be well trained on what to recommend when a person asks for a Bud/Coors and told they are out.

  6. Week 2 and they were already running out of specials on NFL game night so much that by the late game they just had to say they had no specials because they ran out of cans.

  7. What bar, no matter what they're specialty, has no Jack Daniels?

  8. I tried the poutine tacos and they were pretty bad. No gravy and no cheese curds. I was told by other people that the burgers are good and the giant pretzel looked good though.

In summary: it's nice to have a 2nd beer bar in Hoboken (after Corck City) but I was expecting so...
