I thought I had found the best sushi in Hoboken, but I was sadly mistaken. The first couple times I had no real complaints - yes, there were flies hovering my table the entire time, but I thought the food was decent enough so I was able to look past it. The more I went however, the more I realized how the quality will fluctuate every time you're there. Sometimes its decent, but tonight it was very low-tier.
After being completely dissatisfied with my sushi rolls (I left an entire roll on the plate), I communicated to the waiter that the food was not good today. I also told the waiter, "you know, there are a ton of flies in here". She said "french fry?" "no flies, bugs, all over the place" as i swatted the flies that had made a home on my plate. "Oh you want a box". I googled "flies" and showed her a picture of what I was talking about. She laughed and said "I know I know, do you want a box".
I received the check and paid in full for the sushi I did not eat, as they seemingly did not care whether their customers left satisfied or not. I am also confident that they will never address the bug infestation in the restaurant. It gets worse the further you are seated towards the back, coincidentally where they are preparing your food. Yum.
I gave 2 stars because on the off chance you're there on a good night, the sushi can be halfway decent. I would just make sure to sit outside or as close to the front door as possible unless you want to spend your evening picking flies out of...
Read moreThis restaurant was a bad experience. Last Saturday July 22, my sister, my husband and I went out for a snack, an ice cream and a refreshment of some sort. Big empty space with umbrellas and unoccupied seats prompted us to choose this place among so many others along the beautiful and popular Washington street of the city of Hoboken. We were served; and a few moments after enjoying our deserts and drinks - NOT QUITE FINISHED YET - the waitress brought us the bill. Right away this may very well be understood that if we weren't going to order anything else it was time for us to pay and go. We were under the impression that we were not being welcomed since even the use of the ladies room seems to have upset them! At the end of our short visit we decided not to tip them. And a little while after leaving, next thing we know is the waitress running after us; she was claiming we didn't leave any tip to which we responded that we didn't feel they deserve any! We asked: Was this tip under some sort of new City mandate? She couldn't answer; and for decency and to avoid any confrontation, we preferred to actually give her a minimum tip. This restaurant has a very bad attitude, very bad service. In conclusion, it is not a place to go back or even...
Read moreFor someone that never write reviews, here I am. I've been a loyal customer at illuzion for quite some time! I introduce this place to so many of my friends and it kind of became our obsession. Well, today was the last day I stepped my foot in there. I've never complained about anything because there was no reason to. However, today one of the special rolls didn't taste right, something was clearly off, and me having such a great relationship with the owner, I pulled her aside to let her know. Her respond was " if you don't like it, don't order it next time". Rude but sure.... I was still hoping she would do the right thing, but she didn't. We got fully charged for the roll even though we didn't touch it. I chose a free of vomit night. Once the bill arrived I nicely asked her if she could take it off the bill since clearly something was off. Me and my friend basically got yelled at "the problem is not our food, the problem is you didn't like it". I've never been treated this way. Thanks illuzion for great memories and we wish you the best! And a little tip coming from someone working in a customer service, treat your loyal customers...
