Toast x Bowl — Restaurant in Hoboken

Disappointing.

First off, when you order from the kiosk, it automatically recommends an 18% tip. For WHAT? If I’m not even speaking to a person, this is absolutely insane.

Secondly, the food here is wildly expensive. I got a bowl with pork, rice, frozen corn and peas, and thinly sliced cucumber and cabbage. The bowl is basically kids meal sized. I came after going to the gym and within an hour I was hungry again and needed to get a second dinner. For $16 and frozen peas, I better be full. The meal options and portion sizes resemble more of what you would get from a food truck.

Updating review to add - I tried this place out for a second time after my initial review. I came in at about 8:25 pm. I chose to order with a person this time instead and as soon as we started out interaction, she immediately told me that only take out was available. I get that they close at 9:00 pm, but telling someone 35 minutes before closing that they can't sit there to eat their food is odd. Two people came in after me to order and they were increasingly annoyed that people were still trying to order because they were already deep into their cleaning routine. I know they likely want to get ahead of their closing duties, but being rude to customers coming in during the hours your business is supposed to be...

Ordered takeout:

Shrimptastic Sandwich (4/5) - almost a 5/5 but the bread became quite soggy for our takeout order. Not sure if I want to blame the restaurant for this or science to have not yet created a solution to this understandable problem. In the meanwhile, I would love to try this place in person!

The sandwich was luxurious - perfectly scrambled eggs, well seasoned grilled shrimp, flavorful guacamole, crunchy greens, and well buttered brioche bread - nothing to fault here. The lemon mayo/aioli topping arrived on the side as this was a takeout order. This dressing was good, but honestly, the sandwich was delicious even without the dressing that it came with. This is testament to how enjoyable the sandwich was regardless of the extra jazz.

Special mention to the cute bag they deliver their food in. Happy to have found a spot in Jersey too to meet my expectations of a good Korean...
