Two stars for the memory of what you once we're. I have only lived in Lancaster for 18 years but I spent many a weekend and summer visiting relatives long before that.
I remember the Jolly Pirate Donut shop here in town. I remember when it got caught on fire and how devastated we were to not have a place to get donuts that wasn't Kroger or something.
And then Donut World swooped in and saved the day. Thick fluffy donuts with firm outsides and delicious flavorful innards. Just Devine. My dad used to get a big case of cinnamon rolls early on some Sunday mornings as a special treat before church. Or he'd purchase a menagerie of types and I always favored the decadent devils food cake donuts, with icing.
And here I am years later. My father is almost an invalid from his degenerative brain disease and much like him these donuts are a sad reflection of what they once were.
Who in their right mind thought this was acceptable? Mistakes happen, I understand. But you don't turn around and waste icing on them and then sell it at full price and call it a donut. I'm super upset with what I'm receiving from this store anymore lately and have provided an image or two of just one donut I purchased last night. Every single devils food donut I purchased was a flat disc of despair. And so here I am, crunching on this hard disc while I chase my father around who has become almost impossible to communicate with. And I can't even eat the donuts we love to his memory because you served me the crunchy rejects someone should have tossed.
I hope this place can find it's groove again but that is the last of my hard earned money you will be getting for a while. I love shopping local but not if it's crappy product. In this day and age it's hard to be happy but your donuts were always a bright spot. Not anymore. So goodbye for now, maybe forever, Donut World. Or as you should be aptly...
Read moreBecause of the current situation I, like everyone else had to use the drive-thru so I was unable to see the variety they offered. The help was very friendly and the wait in the drive-thru went quickly.
I had their iced devil's food donut, an apple fritter, and a large coffee. They put the cream and sugar in the coffee for me, that is a huge plus in my book.
Let's start with the negatives. The coffee was good but kind of weak. Now to be fair I like my coffee strong so for many people it might not be a detractor but for me it was just barely enjoyable.
The devil's food cake donut was very good. The texture was spot on and while overall the donut was a little bit sweet the bitterness of the chocolate did balance it quite nicely.
The revelation was the apple fritter. This was excellent! It was crispy on the outside and the inside was soft and deliciously chewy.
Although the apple could have been pumped up a little bit more overall this was really a very, very good...
Read moreNormally we do the long line wait, sometimes have to wait for an order to be made or frosted. Today, the person taking our order for two dozen donuts, window person just threw some donuts in a box and sent us on our way. Resolution is to drive back out and swap donuts. Driving home to Cincinnati, when I wanted to have a donut snack. Most donuts in the order are chocolate frosted sour cream donuts. Order supposed to be six chocolate frosted cream filled donuts and six powdered vanilla cream in one box and six chocolate frosted cream filled and six powdered chocolate cream filled. Resolution was to come back and swap donuts, or give name for future purchase. There is no list, or we weren’t added to it when the very same order was messed up exactly the same way the last time we came to town. Two consecutive trips with the...
