The atmosphere is spectacular. The building inside and outside is just beautiful. Everything you hope for a higher end restaurant. We purchased an old fashioned cocktail for $18 to start. Extremely over priced for a shot of bourbon and obviously a pre-made syrup. There wasn’t anything special done to the drink to justify such a high asking price. In fact, this should have been the precursor for our evening. We ordered an appetizer, which was crispy Brussels sprouts while we enjoyed the dinner bread. The table bread was really good, well cooked. The Brussels sprouts on the other hand lacked flavor, the crispiness was from them being over cooked. My wife and I LOVE Brussels sprouts and will routinely order them when we see them on the menu. These were by far the worst Brussels sprouts we have ordered in a “fancy” restaurant. For our entrees my wife ordered the lasagna while I ordered the double cut pork chop. We both had very similar remarks, well cooked but lacked flavor. The pork chop was cooked perfect but the only seasoning used is the glaze they pour over the top. It taste like a watered down bbq sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked but be prepared, the amount of raw green onion added to the potatoes will ruin your palette. If you love onions, you will most likely enjoy the potatoes, if you are a fan of onions or below, the potatoes will NOT be edible for you. The lasagna was well cooked, certainly not dry but nothing to write home about. We chose not to get dessert because of the lackluster flavor profile we experienced in each of the dishes. Overall our deciding factor on a great meal is what do you do when you start to get full? If the chef did a great job, you take bites until you are stuffed because the flavor is so great. We left this restaurant borderline still hungry, our dinner in to go boxes with the slight hope they miraculously find some sort of seasoning between now and when/if we decide to eat them tomorrow. {Side Note: I am writing this review in the morning right before I go to work. I have chose not to grab the left over box for lunch, instead I will eat frozen chicken fingers in an air fryer for lunch today. Our dinner was that disappointing.} If you are picking a restaurant for a spectacular environment and really don’t care about the food, this is your place. If you want anything else, there are plenty of restaurants in the Salt Lake Valley to choose from. The only reason this restaurant survives is because the building it sits in and the location. Save your money, drive an extra 10 minutes and find a regular restaurant. The lasagna is better at Olive Garden and the pork chops are better at Texas Roadhouse, both will cost you...
Read moreI have been debating which place to review for my 100th review and have decided on Tuscany. Tuscany is a refined establishment that sets high expectations even before you walk into the place. People come here to have an experience that cannot be found in just any restaurant, especially for the price. This was my first time visiting Tuscany, so I had high expectations.
Tuscany has complimentary valet parking, so once you drive into the lot, they will take it from there. As we walked in, we were taken to our seats and given the menu. It was not very busy as we had gone on a weekday.
I ordered the pasta special of the day. We also ordered the clam appetizer and the crème brulee for dessert as well. The clams were delicious, but as I was opening the last one, it was filled with mud and sand. It was pretty unappetizing to see. We told the busboy before he took away our plate to show the waiter, however, when the waiter came back, he had no idea what we were talking about. Even though they did not see the clam, they dealt with the dish. The manager came out and apologized for the dish and checked up on us as we were eating our main courses.
My pasta special was tasty, however, it was not anything too special. I also got a taste of the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly! However, it was served on a plate and the meat got cold pretty fast. So, maybe if it is served on a hot plate, it would stay warm and tasty for longer. For dessert, the crème brulee was cooked fine as well.
Overall, the experience was pretty average and for the price of over $200, it is a little disappointing for it to just be average. The food tasted decent, the service was great for a Monday, but the clam appetizer was not the move. Thanks to the manager and the service at Tuscany, it definitely helped the situation! They took the clams off the check and apologized again for the mishap. We came to celebrate Stanley's first day at his new job and was expecting the best time, but overall, the experience was...
Read moreInteresting experience here last night… we came in for a birthday dinner. When we got to the end of the meal, our waiter let us know we “get a special birthday cake” - a molten chocolate cake not on the regular menu. When we got the bill, the cake was $8. Not a big deal, but there was no indicator there would be a cost associated. We stayed for dessert as we thought it was included, otherwise we would’ve just left after dinner.
The food:
first off, the presentation was fantastic on all the dishes
Calamari: nice fry on it, very unique, and overall good flavor. The aioli was delicious. Would recommend.
Baked Brie: very good, came out in a hot skillet with cooked tomatoes and bread. We enjoyed this one.
Pulled pork meatloaf with blueberry compote: compote was great, the meat was just okay. Flavor was salty, not overly strong aside from that. Without the compote it would’ve been mediocre. Nice mashed potatoes and gravy to compliment.
Chicken Parmigiana - again just a little bland. The portion size was gigantic, which help offset the $36 price, but we’ve have much better at Olive Garden for half the price.
Wagyu: better than the first 2 dishes, cooked well, had great sides. A few lower-quality (fatty) pieces in the dish that brought down the overall feel of the dish.
Ravioli: the cheapest dish was the best! For $29, the four-cheese ravioli was a delight, which everyone in the group enjoyed. Would definitely recommend.
Tiramisu: once we decided to stay for the birthday cake, we also got some Tiramisu to share. It was fantastic, creamy, great flavor, overall a terrific dessert.
The ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant. Beautiful interior, definitely felt like we were in Tuscany. The staff was attentive, our waiter was very friendly and helpful.
Overall we had a positive experience, but for the price tag we expected a bit more, and the birthday dessert thing was very weird. When restaurants that cost half the price can include a birthday dessert for free, why...
