The burgers I dream about while in Chicago. My first visit to this restaurant was last year while traveling through Michigan. But since then, I knew if we returned to Holland, I'd come back to Waverly Stone for another juicy and delicious burger. This time my husband and I came for the tulip festival and to attend the parade. The restaurant was packed and had almost an hour's wait. Despite being hungry after a long drive and looking for a parking spot for 40 minutes, we've decided to wait because the food here is worth it. We've had classic medium-rare burgers, fries, and kimchi on the side. The burger was as good as I remembered from the first time. Also, the prices seem reasonable - everything would be at least 25% more expensive for the same quality food in Chicago. The servers are attentive but don't hover over you all the time. I'd prefer outdoor seating to the dim inside of the restaurant. However, on the day we came, it probably was for the better, considering the crowds.

A barista had recommended eating here so we decided to give it a try on our last night in Holland, Michigan. We started with the Octopus appetizer and it was very tasty. It sat on a bed of garbanzo beans tossed in a lemon vinaigrette. I ordered the soup which was a beef stew. It was really under seasoned which may be a northern thing, but being from Texas I am a huge fan of bold flavors. I also orders the wedge salad with the green goddess dressing. It was good and exactly as expected. My husband chose the chorizo burger and loved it. I ordered the roast beef wrap and it too was under seasoned. I wanted the horseradish sauce to be bolder and more flavor somewhere. All in all, the octopus appetizer and the chorizo burgers were winners. The staff was great and attentive even though it was busy. I would have rated this place a 4.5 if I could. Ps. The use of green onion is excessive in my opinion. If you’re not a fan, then be sure to ask that it be left off of your dish

We visited Wavery Stone on a whim for a drink last year and vowed to come back after seeing other patrons' food. We ordered the Beef Short Rib and Italian Sausage Tortellini. The food was ok, but not excellent considering the price. The short rib was tasty, but a smidge overcooked and the beans with that dish were unseasoned, bland and cold. The tortellini was also flavorful, but for $25 felt underwhelming. All told for 2 meals and 2 beers, the bill came to over $80. We don't have an issue paying this much, but this felt like a $60 meal, not $80. Additionally, the service was quite slow. We were only checked on once after receiving our meal, had to ask another server for a to go box, and eventually paid our bill digitally since we hadn't seen our server in awhile. All in all, Waverly Stone is fine, but be prepared to overpay a bit.

Ate dinner here a few weeks ago, was seated immediately as a walk in which was appreciated. Server was friendly, started off with two drinks which were good, then just went straight in with the entree, which was the Mediterranean stir fry that I thought was pretty good - the red pepper risotto was ok.

Bill comes out, I get a receipt that makes sense and is accurate based on what I ordered. Then the transaction gets run and this is where it just gets weird and kicks off an interaction that left a bad taste in my mouth about the whole experience. Receipt initially said like $51, I tipped 20% on what I had thought was that amount (just automatically on the tablet), signed and then got a card notification that I had been charged $86. This did not seem right I know I didn’t pay too close of attention to the dollar amounts on the tablet but I was certain a 20% tip on a $51 bill couldn’t be that high. So I get ahold of the waitress (who again I thought was friendly and did a good job), and ask if she could take a look and see had happened there.

A few minutes pass where she’s talking to I presume the manager or owner, then he comes over to me, and this interaction was where I was just perplexed, as it felt the whole time like I was being treated like an inconvenience for asking to have the bill rectified. He explains what had happened (somehow an extra drink had been added to my tab between when I was given the initial receipt printout and when I actually paid), and then says that he’ll cancel the first transaction and run a new one. But upon changing the subtotal and asking me “are you happy with that” when showing it to me, he kept the same tip which was based on a pretax total $13 higher than I had actually incurred, and then when I asked to change it to reflect my actual total and did the math on my own calculator to what a 20% tip on my correct bill would be, he says “ok so it looks like you’ll be going down to a 17% tip is that what you want to do” and instead of arguing with him I just say sure man, card gets run, and I get out of there without even an apology from him for the extra 10 minutes I had to spend in there and tip judgement that I received for changing my tip to reflect my actual total. Just a bizarre interaction that left a bad taste in my mouth about the whole experience. Server cool though I would like to make that clear she did apologize for...

Walked in with my partner and infant. No hostess so we sat at a table. Only 3 other tables were occupied. A bartender, busser, and 3 waitstaff walked by us without acknowledgment for about 15 mintues, at which time some came and brought water and said someone would be with us soon. Waitstaff continued to ignore us until I fetched a high chair myself. We continued to wait and a table of 6 that were part of some kind of tour walked in and were sat near us. Immediately they were greeted by staff, brought drinks and salads and orders were taken. The busser was sat and rolling silverware at an adjacent table and whom had completely ignored us managed to shoot me a dirty look as we left. As someone thats worked in restaurants before, I don't understand it. They had 3 tables on an afternoom, and a menu with maybe a dozen items, only about 3 of which take longer than 10 minutes to turn out. There isn't anything on their menu that at least 5 other gastros arent doing already within a 50 mile drive. I have no need to return here and if you're hungry and wsnt an inviting atmosphere I cannot...

Waverly Stone is a wonderful addition to the steadily growing downtown Holland area! My 4 year old son and my mother and I attended at lunchtime. As soon as we stepped through the front door we were greeted warmly and seated in a thoughtful location to accommodate our stroller and 4 year old. The atmosphere was easy breezy and mature with clean updates that kept the old world charm of the interior building. The menu was creative and fresh utilizing local fresh ingredients and included an extremely affordable $4 kids menu. Ian, our server, was delightful and knowledgeable about menu items. He also worked with the chef to accommodate my son’s egg allergy. The meals were served in a timely manner (important when dining with a 4 year old;) and the chef’s creativity and intentionality was apparent with the presentation. The facilities were also very clean and my son liked the smell of the hand soap 😁 We will be back for lunch and can’t wait to come back with my husband for a date night to try another delicious creation from the menu AND more of that refreshing root beer on...
