I'm only giving this 3 stars because of the way the server handled the situation I'm about to describe. First time in and liked the menu, etc. I found on-line. Ordered the braised short rib. When it arrived there was a sauce on the dish I wasn't expecting. Tasted it and it obviously contained horseradish. I don't like horseradish and always look for it in meal descriptions. There was no mention in the meal description (there was in another menu item that I might have ordered, but it did in fact mention horseradish). There wasn't a lot, so I scraped it off and put it to the side and ate the meal (I questioned whether I just missed it in the menu descrption). I checked the menu on-line and rechecked the physical mention--no mention of horseradish in the dish. To be fair, the short rib was excellent, as were the other elements of the dish. When I asked our server about this, he blamed it on a mistake in the printing of the menu, claiming they had printed new menus and the old ones used to have the horseradish sauce listed. Perhaps.... However, what I am seemingly supposed to believe is that I'm the first one to bring this up. Call me skeptical. He did say he would mention it to future customers ordering that dish (glad I could help) While this is not a high end restaurant, it's not a budget restaurant either ($100 for two main dishes, two drinks, no appetizers and no dessert). Call me crazy, but I expected the server to offer some form of compensation, (I ate the meal, I wasn't expecting him to fully comp it). Complimentary dessert maybe? A percentage off? Sorry--this was very poor customer relations for what is clearly the...
Read moreSeventy-Six is a restaurant that strives to provide a comfortable and inviting dining experience, but it falls short in a few key areas that impact the overall satisfaction of a meal here.
My visit to Seventy-Six was marked by an order of their fish and chips, a classic dish that I found to be lackluster in flavor. While the fish was cooked adequately, it needed a boost in seasoning, something to elevate it beyond its somewhat bland taste. The accompanying chips were satisfactory but suffered from a similar lack of character.
More concerning was the absence of a genuine side dish to complement the fish and chips. A well-balanced side could have added a much-needed contrast and completed the meal, enhancing both flavor and texture. The omission left the plate feeling incomplete and didn’t live up to expectations.
Service at Seventy-Six was polite and timely, with no notable issues to speak of. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, with a decor that aligns with its name and creates a cozy atmosphere.
However, when it comes to the culinary experience, there’s room for improvement at Seventy-Six. A more thoughtful approach to seasoning and the addition of a complementary side dish could significantly elevate the dining experience.
In conclusion, Seventy-Six offers a decent but unremarkable experience. With some attention to detail and a focus on enhancing the flavors in their dishes, it has the potential to be a standout establishment. For now, it remains an option for a casual meal but is not yet a must-visit...
Read moreYesterday (6/13/24) we went to 76 for an early dinner. This was our first time there. When we arrived there were folks at 2 or 3 tables outside and 1 table with 3 people inside. Two employees greeted us at the hostess stand. We stood for several minutes while they were trying to decide where to seat us. I was a little confused at why this took so long but a young lady finally guided us to a table for 2. We were provided with drink and food menus and another young lady brought water. We sat for approx 5 minutes when another couple was seated. Another 3-5 minutes went by and finally, a waitress WENT TO THE OTHER TABLE. All of this time, nobody came to see if we wanted anything to drink or to take our order. We decided to leave. On the way out, my wife told the person at the hostess stand that we were leaving. She said 'have a nice day' to which my wife let her know that nobody wanted to serve us. We're near 70 years old and have never walked out of a restaurant before. As you can imagine, we've experienced poor service before but I can't ever remember 'no service'. We were pleased with the menu options and ambience. I can't comment on the food but these folks know how to take the word service out of food service. We're happy to hear that Public in Zeeland is reopening and part of the same 1983 Restaurants. We've enjoyed several meals and hope their new staff wasn't trained by the same folks as...
