We’ve came and sat down to eat here quite a few times. My husband loves the Hash brown omelette. I am a sucker for the Fried Cinnamon roll and recently discovered the birds nest and I’m in love with it! Their hash browns are delicious! During each of our visits the staff have always been kind and they’re so quick to bring out your food and refill your drinks! And they have amazing prices! It doesn’t get any better at the Windmill. To top it off, due to Covid-19 the last 2 times we’ve had Windmill were takeout. The first time they nailed it, the order was perfect and I love they they include a variety of condiments like jelly, butter, syrup, ketchup and they never forget the silverware. The second time we tried getting it delivered, Postmates and Holland Eats offers delivery for The Windmill. I kept waiting for a Postmates driver to get on to place my order but after 2 hours of watching I found Holland Eats. I was hesitant since I felt it may never come or that the food will be cold once it arrived due to Holland Eats issues. It took Holland Eats about an hour to assign someone to the order, then another 45 minutes just for the driver to get to the restaurant. At that point I was expecting to get my food ice cold. It definitely wouldn’t have been The Windmills fault if the food was cold. It was Holland Eats lack of drivers. But to our surprise when the food arrived the food was a perfect temperature! And we live a good 12 minutes away! I definitely attribute this to The windmill knowing the best time to cook our food so it’s fresh, their packaging was nice and bundled and it was 1000% worth the wait! I’m so happy to have a reliable food place on the area! Especially breakfast. Takeout is never very satisfying, honestly it usually ends up cold, the portions are small and you feel like you pay more for less. This is definitely not the case at the Windmill!...
Read moreThe only reason to give this place a star is because the waitress gave the best service she could. To begin our visit, I needed to use the restroom. It was literally the smallest restroom I've ever been in and, to top it off, there was nowhere to set or hang my bag. Like, seriously, could the owner not spend $3 on a Command hook for the door so women could at least pee without having to hang their bags on the backs of their necks? What would I have done if I had a coat? Tossing my bag handle over my head so I could go to the bathroom, my hair naturally got in my eye and I ended up with a hair in my contact lens and no way to be able to get it out since the bathroom was so small and the lighting so poor that I couldn't accomplish that task. But, since I had friends waiting, I sucked it up and decided to suffer through lunch until I could get to a place with sufficient space to allow me the freedom of movement to remove my contact and clean it. (The salon down the street accommodated me with that) Needless to say, our experience deteriorated from there. The chili was so watery that I just picked out the meat and veggies, my friend's chilli dog looked horrid (although she said it was a Hebrew National so the dog itself tasted ok). The cinnamon roll looks ok, but my friends said the dough was just like bread dough and the icing was grainy and overall it was just not good. The cole slaw was way too creamy, almost soupy and I gave up on it after a few bites. We all feel like this restaurant could have been amazing if it did more than trade on the local (De Zwann) Windmill significance. Please visit another restaurant if you can. We hope that if we ever choose to try this place again, there is improvement. The highlight was our waitress who was friendly...
Read moreBest breakfast food in town. I have always loved eating here since I was a little kid.
Was less than impressed with my last visit though. I walked in on a Sunday morning, which I know is their busiest morning, fully expecting to wait to be able to get a table. When I got to the front to put my name down for a table there wasn't any form of a waiting list. There was only a poorly formed line that went out of the building. A waitress came up and asked every group she could see how many people were in each party and then walked away. She completely missed all the groups that were waiting outside the door. I asked if there was a waiting list anywhere we can put our names on. She politely replied with "we will be with you shortly" and that was all
I waited about 15 min after I asked if there was a waiting list to watch the servers grab the first party they could and seat them. Completely disregarding the order of which party showed up first. I left after that.
I have always loved this place because it still has the feel of an old fashioned restaurant so I understand if they want to still do things old fashioned, but a waiting list is an old fashioned technique too, and it's something this restaurant should seriously consider using. The free for all method is a method that won't be bringing back to the windmill...
