When the clock strikes 5:30, make your way to Point Royal for oyster hour where celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian and former Beachcraft executive chef and Diplomat’s now corporate chef Michael Fiorello have concocted a menu featuring a slew of oceanic delights. The aptly named oyster hour lets you have freshly shucked bivalves alongside pretty potent margaritas for $7, though eating your way through the regular menu is also highly recommended. Get a seafood tower and do like we do with a dirty martini to wash it down. Then, do try Point Royal’s Ugly Burger, Oyster Po’Boy, Alaskan King Crab Ricotta Dumplings, Steamed Maine Mussels with creme fraiche and dijon mustard, and GZ’s (that’s Geoffrey Zakarian’s) Poached Lobster Roll that takes a whole crustacean and douses it in a piquant Coleman’s mustard sauce.

I had the pleasure staying at this resort for a competition.there was a restaurant called point Royal where you dine in for breakfast or dinner but I just went for breakfast. There is a very helpful beautiful spirit, beautiful smile hard worker and breath of fresh air waitress by the name of Fiona, that made our breakfast experience so wonderful. She is a very hard worker, she made sure everyone was ok if there was any request she made sure that they was taking care of in a timely manner. They had her working all over the restaurant but she made sure all of her customers was taking care of. We experience another waiter that we had to ask numerous times for different things that we needed and sometimes didn't get. A lot more of the other waiters and waitresses should take notes from Fiona!!!....

We stayed at the resort for five days and have visited dozens of places across the US over the past ten years. This was our worst experience with a waitress, Florencia. The restaurant implements a mandatory 20% tip for lunch, which might have influenced her behavior. After we declined the $10 Evian bottled water in favor of tap water, she began treating us poorly. We waited 40 minutes for our food in a nearly empty restaurant. Additionally, her behavior turned racist when she inquired about our nationality.

3.5 I haven't visited a Geoffrey Zakarian restaurant since 2011’s Tudor House. Oh, how I mourned that restaurant closing…and their Fruity Pebbles Donuts.

The hotel offers complimentary valet and self-parking across the street. The vast atrium area leading to the restaurant resembles nothing of the past. Heavy on the ocean-themed decor and working off a palette of blues/corals, the new Diplomat toes the line between tropical-chic and cruise-ship cachet. It's clear Point Royal has adopted their very own understated nautical vibe: capiz shell chandeliers, sandy-shaded woods, woven rattan chairs, and neutral fabric with pops of navy blue.

Service began immediately upon sitting and continued with some stumbles along the way. Unfortunately for me, most of the dishes I'd researched and predetermined I'd be ordering, no longer existed or had been modified. Apparently heeding public opinion, Point Royal switched serving sizes and sliced prices since opening four months ago. Notably, the popular Butter Poached Lobster Roll (was $35, now $22) and Pomegranate Glazed Short Rib (was $42, now $24) are now half the size. The Fresh Linguine and Clams replace the Fresh Spaghetti; the Ricotta Dumplings replace the Ricotta Agnolotti. Goodbye Colorado Lamb Tartare. Goodbye Peanut Butter & Jelly ice cream. No! Say it isn't so! But I understand. Much will change as the restaurant carves their way into the South Florida dining scene. Still, I wanted to try so many of these, especially that PB&J ice cream. So much so, it's even the first thing I asked about once seated. I couldn't help but feel disappointed when the waitress insisted it hadn't been on the menu for a while.

HIGHLIGHTS: The Lobster Roll, Short Rib, and Ricotta Dumplings

*A buttered potato bun and a generous serving of equally buttery lobster- topped with a lightly tangy mayo-mustard dressing- made the Lobster Roll a keeper. Given my favorite one is no longer available (from the old PB Steak), I guess I've found its replacement. Although, not sure what happened to the Bibb lettuce I'd seen plated with the roll in every photo. Mine arrived with a small lonely lemon sliver. *Filled with Florida blue crab and doused in a light lemon butter sauce, the velvety Ricotta Dumplings make a lovely menu addition. *I have to admit that online photos also enticed me to order the Short Rib, even though it's not something I often love. The new size change mentioned earlier seems fitting. The pomegranate glaze added a nice floral, yet earthy quality to the perfectly cooked and fall-off-the-bone ribs. *Lastly, it's worth noting that the dressings and sauces used in every dish are Point Royal's forte. Most dishes heavily depended on them.

MISS: Service left a lot to be desired.

*For the price of dinner for two ($224.00), the overall service should have been knowledgeable, and professional. Too many hiccups affected the overall experience. The "approachable American Cuisine" restaurant falls into the "dishes come out as they are ready" category I so greatly detest. No thanks. I do not wish to start dinner with my entree, then followed by my appetizer, and then followed by my salad. Despite the waitress' promises to course items out, the food overlapped each other and arrived without rhyme or reason. Last to arrive? The salad. Awesome. It's a good thing I didn't place my dessert order at the beginning of dinner. Speaking of...

*Remember that PB&J ice cream I so greatly coveted? To the waitress' surprise, the dessert menu listed the flavor as available after all: homemade, creamy, and everything I dreamed it would be. Worth the wait. Sadly, unlike Point Royal.

Here's hoping this isn't yet another restaurant attempting to get by on celebrity-chef fame alone. Name recognition will not get you far for very long in South Florida, but improving the hospitality end of it will. For now, it seems like this newcomer needs some time to mature before it can blossom. And maybe some Fruity...

I loved dinner here. But this review is about brunch.

It’s unfathomable to me that the only restaurant in the hotel that serves a full breakfast ONLY serves it buffet style. You can not order off an a la carte menu. The only other breakfast option is “Counter Point” next door. It’s a walk up counter where an egg sandwich will cost you $13 and coffee $4 or more.

So what does the buffet cost? $35 per person. That’s a lot of money for eggs. I ate there because a bellman told me it was $25. That’s not cheap, but I figured it’d be nicer to have a meal than pay at least $17 for a sandwich and coffee.

The food that I had was pretty good. The omelette station made a large, tasty omelette. And they had delicious lox with capers and onions to go with their bagels (not NY style bagels, but they were very good). And the meal comes with OJ and a hot drink.

But if the ridiculous price is issue #1, then here’s issue #2: an 18% gratuity is automatically included. Know what that means? That your waiter will likely be difficult to find and inattentive. At least mine was, forgetting things that I’d asked him for and disappearing at one point for a really long time. And to top it off? There is an additional line on the receipt for a tip, presumably for those who didn’t pay attention that 18% was already included.

So the food is worth 3 stars, but price and service rate 0. And take a look at the picture of my coffee pot. You’d think that for a $45 breakfast they’d at least give me a pot that doesn’t look like it’s been banged around the...

This is the best restaurant in The Diplomat. The prices are pretty reasonable for what you're getting and the service was very good both times we ate here. The buffet is huge and there are a lot of really interesting selections like tarts and creme brulee. The chicken sausage was pretty good as well. You can have someone make you a custom omelet which is nice. The buffet is $36 but it also includes unlimited drinks. There are also other selections on the menu like breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. It's much better food than what you'd find on, say, a cruise ship buffet. With that said, it's better to come early because like all buffets the food is fresher the earlier you get there.

Server was extremely attentive and did a great job. Atmosphere is also really nice as you're sitting right near the beach with some window views. The gratuity is included but I also paid the server a little extra since she did such a good job. I went here with two other family members and we all agreed that this was the best restaurant at The Diplomat. It's a shame they're not...
