I love burgers, so this is an unbiased review of a self-proclaimed burger joint. Let's start with the good. The drinks were cold, ICE cold (beer and other beverages included). And the burger was pretty good as well, with an exception - WAY TOO MUCH MAYO! This is coming from a guy who likes a sloppy, juicy burger. But this was like they let a 3-yr old dress the burger. WTCuss??? Who wants so much mayo on a burger that you cannot taste anything else??? It was literally oozing and dripping in it.
Next: there were the soft drinks: in a can. Well at least they were ice cold. That's a plus.
I chose potato salad as my side. It was pretty good in respect to taste, but it was warm. To me, warm potato salad is like cold fries. Not great! Which brings me to my next point. They do not serve fries or onion rings, or tater tots or anything. Which is fine, but if your choices are chips or potato salad, make sure the patato salad isn't warm and serve more than 2 table spoons! I am not exaggerating - it's literally a sample size like the samples when you're shopping at Costco or SAMs Club. It's really laughable.
Wait time: wait time as about 45-minutes.
Atmosphere: just like any run down burger joint you could find in any pass through town anywhere in the U.S.
Overall experience: they wowed me with nothing sadly. Good burger, but not great.
Other AMI options: Skinny's is right off the beach, has that old Island feel, serves o-rings and fries and equally cold drinks!
For all of those that posted 5-star reviews - you are easily impressed.
Haven't tried Harry's but will...
Read moreMy husband and I have been going to Anna Maria Island on vacation for the last five years, so naturally when we started the full-time RV life we wanted to visit the old haunts even though we were staying in Wesley Chapel, almost 2 hours away. One of our most favorite places is Duffy's Tavern because they have the best hamburgers and ambiance on the island. We had a great lunch and I went out to get the car cooled off while my husband paid the check ( cash only and you may wait a while; they're busy and you have to pay and order at the counter). While I was sitting in the car waiting, I noticed a young African American couple with a young boy leaving the restaurant. They had come in shortly after us and when they left, they each had a glass of water only so I was kind of confused...had they eaten that fast? When my husband came out to the car, I asked him why the family had left with just water. He looked very uncomfortable as he told me that he watched the young man stand at the counter and be ignored for 15 minutes while others were served before they finally left. I don't know what happened because I wasn't in there but I do know that they came in shortly after us and left after we finished eating without ever having been acknowledged. I love Duffy's and have always been a fan but I have an African American nephew whom I love without question and mixed great-nieces...if anyone ever treated my family like I saw that family being treated, I'd be being bailed out of jail. No more Duffy's for me simply on principle. Shame on you...it's...
Read moreThis is a tavern. Cash only! Typical rock and roll soundtrack, jovial folks imbibing alcohol at the bar and neon signs glowing with the promise of all that beer can bring. Definitely one of those places to rub elbows with a local crowd. The table was great and the prices were reasonable in comparison with other local eateries. Grab a menu make a selection and walk up to an empty place at the bar if there is one then give the tender your order. The drinks will be passed over the counter and after you return to your table the food will be delivered to you when it has been prepared. It did not take long for the burgers to arrive. They do not have fries but the potato salad was nice maybe the coleslaw would be good as well but we did not order it. The burgers were very good above average to be sure. All around a good experience even for this...
