I was traveling from out of town and this restaurant happened to be close to my hotel. The margaritas were the best I've had in a long time. They were fresh with a quality tequila and well balanced sweet and sour. The smiles those margaritas created, after a long day of travel with rush hour Birmingham traffic on a Friday, were pure magic. Follow that up with thin crispy chips and house made salsa with just enough heat to keep the margaritas coming and the best bean dip I've had yet. Well, by the time we got to the hotel, all of the days cares had melted away. We also ordered chili rellenos and the Porky's. Both were awesome. I have a thing for a good chili relleno and those ones hit all the check boxes. They came with a thin, egg rich crust and filled with melty cheese, smothered in a red chili sauce that was house made with real, quality chilies. Earthy, savory and authentic. The hubby ordered the Porky. The meat was top notch with some crispy edges and really good bbq sauce. Again, nothing about the sauce seemed as if it came right out of a bottle. It was...
Read moreWe were out of town, and we stopped to eat lunch. We ordered the chimichangas which the menu said comes with two with rice and beans. We ordered them without the beans and when they brought our plates, it only had one small chimichanga, which probably was about 2x3”in size. I asked my husband because I thought I read we were supposed to get two but he didn’t remember, what was on the menu. My husband ordered a couple of drinks and we ended up paying $37 before tip. My husband didn’t want to argue with him so I decided to leave them a bad review. It’s almost like they knew we were from out of town and they cheated us as I looked up the menu online after we left. The food was good, but not what we paid for. The service was very slow, especially trying to get the bill as we were in a hurry to leave and we waited quite a while, while the waiter was taking his time, waiting on other people, but they were very slow there. Like I said, the food was good but just make you get sure you get what...
Read moreI will never return to Margaronas Cantina. Visited the restaurant on a Friday night. Sat and waited for over 45 minutes and was never greeted by a server. Saw three tables of white customers that arrived after me greeted, drinks served, and orders taken before I alerted the manager. Asked the lady that passed out chips and salsa for an order of queso and she rolled her eyes at us and walked away. Never received anything from her. One of the other servers did ask if we had been helped and was kind enough to bring us water and put in the order of queso for us while we waited for our server but the queso came out cold. Fed up, I alerted the manager who was very apologetic and he served us that night but never even offered to comp anything for the horrible service we experienced. And we never found out who the original server was. Especially with all the great reviews, it's hard to believe we weren't treated differently because of our race....
