Assaggio Bistro/Kahala — Restaurant in Honolulu

Went for dinner last night about 6:30-6:45. Waiter came by only ONCE. It was the hostess (girl with hair up) that took and brought our drink orders, as well as our appetizer and food order. She was so pleasant and apologetic. We had a bus boy that helped out too. Other skinny hostess with long hair didn't even acknowledge our presence. After waiting for about 30-40 minutes our food finally came out. Needless to say we were full from waiting and eating bread. My fettucinni noodles were too soft and overcooked. If they couldn't accommodate my party of 3 or wouldn't be able to provide the service expected then they should have not taken our party. Worst Assagio's service ever. Will definitely NOT return, but hats off to the hostess! I only left a 15% tip because of her and the bus boy since they share the tips. Wish I could've gave it...

My son and I visited here yesterday and had a wonderful experience. I’m sorry I do not remember the name of our server, but she was excellent and attentive without being overly so. We split an appetizer of calamari which we try at every single restaurant that has it on their menu. Needless to say, since we eat out a lot, we have a lot to compare to and this was by far the best calamari we have had anywhere all over the US. For an entrée, my son had the New York strip steak with linguine and sautéed mushrooms. He loved it, he said the steak was perfectly cooked. I had the chicken puttanesca, which was divine. Was really disappointed with this place. I took my wife and our friends here for her birthday. I let them know that it was her birthday and if they could do something special, as well as asked for a bottle of Champaign at the table when we arrived.

When we showed up for our reservation the host said bluntly (in front of my wife as well) that they could not get the champagne. Totally ruining the surprise. They didn’t even do anytbing for her during.

After arriving we waited over ten minutes to be even asked for drink requests.

Two stars because the food was at least good. The service and experience (which is why we chose assogios) is something that needs significant work.
