IL Gelato Cafe Kahala — Restaurant in Honolulu

Walked up to the counter while the 4 girls who were working (FOUR!) were in the midst of juicy gossip. 3 girls looked at me (made eye contact) yet continued to carry on in their conversation. While I was standing there waiting to order the cashier (I assume, she rang me up) finally turned around and took my order. That should've been my cue. I ordered a pastrami, sauerkraut and swiss panini. Instead I receiced a grilled panini sandwich sprinkled with paper thin pastrami scraps, very little cheese and sauerkraut. I had more sauerkraut than anything else even though that wasn't much either, and even that was over powered by all the bread. Do not order their sandwiches! Unacceptable IL Gelato Cafe! Is this how you make paninis? If so, remove them from your menu or label them properly such as "panini flatbread sprinkled w/ xyz." That's more appropriate and less deceiving to your customers. Maybe just stick to gelato and sorbet, cause your "sandwich" was trash. So...

About time a do a review because I've been going here for the longest time ever. I really love place! Nice spot for gelato, acai bowls, some 10/10 coffee, and food. I mostly go here for coffee and scoops. The brand they use is Illy, which is super good (I worked at Starbucks for a bit, and I can promise you it outranks them by far.) The gelato is super yummy too! I like that they have different flavours of the month, so it gives you a good reason to come back and see what they got. Everything is all made with local ingredients on island, so it's a nice change from everything else. All of the servers there are incredibly friendly and wonderful people to talk to as well. The bar has seating too, so if you need a place to sit while you kill time, or are doing homework, or just wanna chill and enjoy something yummy, you don't have to fight for tables in the mall. 11/2023 Stopped by on a spur of the moment decision for lunch after a workout. Have always seen it and always wanted to try it. Girls are very friendly and the menu is interesting. While the food menu is simple and enticing, we wish it had a couple more selections. The sandwiches are pre-made, and we both tried the chicken panini. It was missing something, and we both agreed. A little aioli would've been good as the sandwich just fell a little short. Would love to see them reduce the health smoothies a little so they can carry more food items. We really wanted to like it a lot more. A helpful suggestion would be to consolidate the machinery around the counter so they can "see" the counter space in front of the customers and better service them.
