My first visit here I was pleasantly surprised about the food I ordered. The mongolian beef had the same exact perfect flavor I remember as I child, the orange chicken was also spectacular. The hot and sour soup was very delicious as well. The second time I ordered, the same meals with the exception of the orange chicken tasted very different. It seemed as if there was a different chef who was heavy handed about using the Chinese 5 spice. I felt like I was back in Taipei eating the street food there. I thought maybe this was a mistake given we were speaking mandarin when we ordered. The third time however, it tasted similar to the first time but the execution was off. The orange chicken had too much of a sour vinegar taste, the mongolian beef was watery and lacking in flavor and heat, and the hot and sour soup was actually not hot but more bitter and sour. I feel the need to write this as a message to the owners of this place. The last two orders I believe were during the weekend. There seems to be a lot inconsistency and if you cannot have the better chefs running, please close the place! I will never return again as I had to throw the food away and felt we wasted quite a bit of money the...
Read moreI remember going to this restaurant thirty years ago as a child of about seven with my dad. I remember it being small, but cozy and two older, silver haired aunties working inside. I confess, I wasn’t a picky child and liked everything that I ate here, especially the steamed rice. Having found it still open and in the same location I had to try it with my wife. We arrived at the perfect time to find a parking spot and went inside to be greeted be two older aunties, not quite silver haired. One took our party size and we were sat within moments. I remember seeing a chef on the menu and looking through the pages. After a few minutes we ordered the house fried rice, shrimp and pork spicy sauce wonton, and the shrimp and pork pot sticker. Unfortunately, of the three, my wife and I only liked the house fried rice. The wontons had a healthy dose of cilantro in each and as a garnish overpowering the dish. The potstickers would have been good, but the sauce at table side was heavy with toasted sesame. This may have been my fault as a lack of understanding on my part, but it killed the flavor unfortunately. It was a good memory relived, but I may prefer going to a more well understood...
Read moreMy parents found this place making some foods we weren’t able to find since the only place in the Chinese cultural plaza closed down years ago. Call early and make an appointment. They were booked like crazy. We got real lucky and they said if we got there when they opened they could squeeze us in before all the big reservations started.
This is a real local mom and pop kind of restaurant. So please treat them nice and be pleasant. They appear to be understaffed with the amount of people they cram in there. When the reservations started coming it was non stop and they were full up. A very popular place for a Monday.
The food is great. Lots of flavor and spice but not crazy spicy like you hear about northern Chinese foods in China.
The sticky rice roll and the bread pockets you fill with the meat filling were both what we missed and stand outs. The beef noodle soups and hot/sour soups were right behind it in rankings for us.
If you can get a reservation we highly recommend trying this place! Pricing is a bit higher than other Chinese restaurants BUT the serving sizes appear to be more family sized so you definitely get your money’s worth in...
