Donut King — Restaurant in Honolulu

Look. They don't need my review. They sell out every day regardless...but I'll write one anyway. I'm from Chicago, and was visiting my sister who has been living on the island for a few years. When she told me I had to try "the best donut you will ever eat in your life", I rolled my eyes. "Can it beat the Stans Donuts I have back home? Fat chance", I thought. Until I experienced it.

I was doing some dishes at her apartment when I took my first bite. I almost didn't even register how good it was because I inhaled the rest of it in about one second, without even really realizing. I kept doing the dishes, and a moment later realized what had just occurred. The flavor, the fluffiness, the way it dissolved on my tongue. All my brain knew was "give me more of that immediately." I turned to see my sister filming my reaction, laughing hysterically. From there on I was a fiend. She had insisted on buying a dozen. "This wont be enough", she said. She was not wrong. I ate half the box in about 10 minutes. The cinnamon crumble (best hands down), the chocolate twist, the maple bacon, the glazed. All are a romantic, borderline s*xual experience. And thus, a love affair with a small donut shop in Hawaii was born.

The last time my sister flew home to Chicago, she traveled 5000 miles, across an ocean and two connecting flights, with a dozen Donut King donuts on her lap. She battled multiple airport strangers licking their chops and leaning over trying to steal a sniff. One man BEGGED for a small piece. She acquiesced, but for the remainder of the journey did her best to stay strong for us back home. She succeeded in surprising us with those donuts. A Christmas miracle.

Well naturally I'm all about something that's called Donut King! I mean think about it the absolute Undisputed king of donuts! I bought a gallon of chocolate milk went inside their shop and ordered one of each donut halfway through my gluttonous donut binge , the king himself came out of the king's chamber which is located in the rear of the shop and he was dressed in normal King attire which consists of chocolate-covered cape made of donut skin they were chocolate jimmies and rainbow jimmies sprinkles all over his body he had boots made of the holes of the finest glazed donuts in all of the land he had sparkling frosting and candies which were embroidered all over a gigantic donut crown there was much more but you get the gist of it. He came out from the back to offer me a seat at the table. I'm like what! Me at The Doughnut table? He said yes you have shown great courage and Valor and you have an intestinal fortitude not seen much these days. He said he admired my courage and tenacity in my attempt to eat all the donuts. He told me to get down on my knees and repeat after him. It was something like I promise to uphold blah blah blah blah blah blah blah you know the deal and then I was knighted with a gigantic Long John. Now I am a noble donut night at the king of donuts. No it definitely sounds like I'm describing some type of scene in a gay pornographic movie. But even if I was...

1/25/25 Was in the area so we stopped by to pick up some treats. He chose the maple bacon and chocolate eclair. I picked plain glazed and glazed old fashioned. When we got home a few hours later, the donuts were just as delicious as I remember the first time. The only bummer was that he had asked for a chocolate eclair but chocolate glazed was in the box instead. Ahh, it was okay because it was delicious.

10/14/2021 A friend dropped by and brought me the plain glazed donuts to try. She said they're the best when eaten warm and right away (she'll eat hers in the parking lot!). They weren't warm but wow! I don't ever crave donuts but these were light, fluffy, and not too sweet. The texture when I bit into the donut was addicting! Good thing I live far away from this location or I'd eat these...
