This is the best food I have ever tasted...yes ever!!! My husband treated us to dinner here and because it was our first time, he ordered a plethora of dishes with many of the house favorites and those recommended by the waitstaff! Can I say that we were absolutely floored!!!! In all my years of living here in Hawaii and having had the opportunity to partake of meals from different cultures and places across the island chain, I have never enjoyed the food as much as I did this evening! We started with some of their most popular appetizers to include their creative and fresh salads topped with strawberries soaked in a light vinaigrette, deep fried pork belly strewn over a bed of crisp and thinly sliced cabbage drizzled with a house dressing and their freshly baked brie topped with an amazing cherry tomato concoction to spread over house bread baked charred to perfection! But our most favorite and flavorful dish was their escargot with bone marrow..😍😍😍...yes...my husband and I are in love with this dish! It was overflowing with an insanely rich and smooth beef flavor that complemented the escargot and mash with every bite. Once we were done with the delectable appetizers, our main entrees were served and we were floored and wowed over and over again! Each dish was a paradise of it's own flavors and there was not one that lacked luster! We tried their popular house burger, smoked prime rib, rack of lamb, lobster pasta, and the whole fish dish, which to my son's delight was an entire red snapper, from head to tail, served on a bed of ratatouille. There was truly something for everyone and these dishes surely superceeded our expectations and definitely tantalized our tastebuds. What can I say? This is our new favorite restaurant!!!Not to mention the adorable and outgoing waitstaff who were very friendly and engaging from the moment we walked in! They made us feel comfortable from the start and their great customer service made the whole experience that much more delightful! We will be back for sure to have another round of bone marrow escargot and to try their other dishes, which the waitstaff informed us do change from time to time, with the exception of a few house favorites that remain on the menu year round! So if you are looking for a localplace that has a unique ambiance, great customer service and dishes that deliver an explosion of flavor with every bite, Livestock Tavern is an absolute must try...

Today me and my lady friend walked into Livestock Tavern to have a meal and drinks. We were seated fairly quick and greeting was pleasant. We were then sat at a seating area along the wall. The service was a bit slow after we received our entrées and drink. We ordered Oxtail with Mac and the only burger on the menu. The food was very well prepared and tasty, and at the end of our meal my surprise was to find a roach crawling on me. I have worked in the good industry for over 10 years and yes I know there is no such thing as a hospital clean restaurant. However, as I went to explain the incident quietly to the manager. He did apologize and stated that they were trying to get the infestation under control. He then asked me if we had paid our check and I stated yes we had already done so. He then asked if we wanted desert free of charge for the inconvenience of the earlier mentioned problem. I explain yo him the I did not want desert or anything else from the restaurant ever again. He then smirked at me and walked away. I later attempted to call the restaurant to speak with the manager again. To my dismay I was asked my name and I politely refused and again asked for the manager. The lady on the phone disrespectfully and sternly told me that she can not get the manger to the phone without my name. I again ask if I could speak to the manager and explain to her that my name was unimportant at the time. She hung the phone up without out asking for the manager. So, seeing as I was not able to make a verbal statement as to my sickly feeling of the whole situation. I did what is expected of any person that is a paying customer and noticed of a small infestation. Placeca review to warn others in case anyone gets surprised or get sick. I myself will never eat there again and we warn my friends not to eat there either. Rude and disrespectful Management and whom ever was the female whom answered the phone and hung up on me because I would not give me name in order to speak...

Had a truly awful experience here. We had a reservation for 10 people made a few days prior to our dinner. When we arrived, the table they had reserved for us was still taken up by a group that had been there for 3-4 hours, they didn’t have another table setup for 10. We asked them to try and move some tables around to accommodate us but they weren’t willing/able to do so, although it appeared there was enough space and open tables. I’m sure there was a reason for that but their communication was not great in telling us why. Ultimately we were forced to split our party up, not something we wanted to do as we were celebrating a birthday and had a reservation. At that point we asked if when the large party leaves, opening our originally reserved table, could we move there. Totally reasonable request, so they said yes. Once that party left, we got excited and were asking if we could move. Our server ultimately came back and says, the manager says this will be your seating for tonight, essentially saying we couldn’t move and had to stay where we were. Which of course made no sense. So we started asking why and ultimately wanted the manager to come out and tell us why. The manager wouldn’t even talk to us and just hid behind the bar. He had to have his server employee come talk to us instead of him. Was obviously quite awkward for the server. We were obviously upset at this point but still planned on eating. The server comes back over and asks us to finish our drinks, pay for them, and go ahead and leave. We thought ooo so now we’re just getting kicked out? Of course uncalled for. Manager still wouldn’t even talk to us. Eventually someone spoke to him on the way out asking why we were asked to leave and he just says cause you have too many requests. The only request being to sit together like we had originally reserved. We had been so excited to try this place out based on reviews but could not have been more...

The world food tour made a return visit to Livestock Tavern after taking in the Tan Dun concert at Hawaii Theater. Our reservations were for 6:45pm but we arrived at 5pm after leaving the concert at intermission. We went for the first half and Gustav Mahler is just not my cup of tea. We were the first patrons of the evening and we were seated at a table for two in a corner … Perfect for us. I ordered a 2018 Neyers Pinot Noir from their Placida Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The wine was a deep ruby color with a great deal of red fruit, cola undertones and the right amount of acidity. Our appetizers were the Bourbon and Bone Marrow and the Pumpkin & Brussels. The bone marrow needed more time under the salamander as we like our marrow with the bones browned. The roasted garlic and mushrooms somewhat overwhelmed the marrow … Another reason for caramelization of the bones. The pumpkin and brussels were excellent … I would be satisfied with just this dish and a side of crisped bacon. The pumpkin was perfect … The combination of brussels sprouts, bacon and balsamic is simply wonderful. Our entrees were the seared duck breast and the grilled rack of lamb. The duck was moist and tender and the lamb was well seasoned and prepared as I like it … medium rare. The lamb was served with assorted root vegetables; the duck came with asparagus, potatoes atop a pumpkin puree. We shared a warm apple tart for dessert. This was the sole disappointment of the evening. The Granny Smith apple was cut into large chunks … IMO, it would have been far better had the apple been cut into thin slices. I make this dessert at home and thinly sliced apples is far easier to cook properly than large chunks of apple. Final thoughts … Livestock Tavern offers interesting dishes at a very reasonable price … I wish they would re-open for lunch.

Bottom Line: Good Drink, 1 for 2 on the food, inconsistent service, hesitant to recommend. We started with the Hen of the Wood Mushroom, which was fantastic. The fried pork belly and asparagus were great accents. The old fashion was recommended by the waitresss an didn't disappoint. The bitters were the perfect accompaniment to the bourbon. Although the menu stated that the bourbon was Livestock selected Maker's Mark...it was actually Elijah Craig? It was even printed as Makers on my receipt...Either way, well executed besides the confusion on what's inside. We selected the leg of lamb as our main. The lamb was sliced thin and seared. This led to the meat being overdone and jerky like. I think it would been executed better as a roast ad cut to order. Some of the vegetables were underdone. Overall a promising dish that underwhelmed. One strang side note, the bathroom soap was way overpowering, interfering with the taste of my drink and meal. I would've liked to share these issues with the staff, but I wasn't asked how my meal went. Overall, I would be hesitant to recommend this restaurant...as the issues I experienced seem to be apart of the normal operation. It is the little things that matter when paying chef quality prices...
