Kept seeing this Poke place by our hotel so I wanted to try it. Its kind of a build your own poke bowl or you can choose a signature bowl. There are two sizes small or large. You get white rice or brown. You can choose a side of imitation crab or seaweed or get both. It comes with the bowl. Then small has a choice of two proteins large has a choice of three. Theres vegetarian options as well for protein such as tofu. Then theres regular options such as classic ahi tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, etc. Then theres unique choices such as octopus. It was nice to see Albacore tuna also and scallops hard to find a good poke place that offers those as well. Then you choose toppings. They have different toppings such as cilantro, jalapenos, cucumbers, masago, etc. Then you have a few choices of sauces. Sweet chili and ponzu was the combination I tried very yummy. Finally they have a three fried options such as fried garlic, fried onion, and fukikare. Overall a very good sized bowl even the small was a good size. Everything tasted fresh and the flavors were spot on. Definitely my favorite thing I tried while in Waikiki. The staff was very friendly and patient if you had questions or indecisive. Definitely recommend you stop by if...
Read moreI live in the area and tried this place for the first time today because of the positive reviews. I do not recommend eating here.
The service is bad. One staff member openly disrespected the other because there was confusion on which bowls belonged to which customers. She was so rude to the other girl, and she did it in front of ten customers. Nobody deserves to be humiliated in front of customers.
In addition to the staff being rude, they were super impatient with customers. There were 5 unfinished bowls in front of me, and 3 people physically in front of me and they wanted me to pick my fish before I could see my order. It feels unwise to order fish before you can see it to know if it looks fresh or appetizing. We ended up being squeezed by the couple in front of us, because the staff was rushing through new orders before they completed the existing ones. And the same thing happened to the people behind us as soon as we ordered.
Food is just okay. Mostly it’s overpriced. Servings are small and there’s a lot of rice. There’s nothing special about this poke place.
If you’re a tourist, for fresh fish try Maguro Brothers (not Maguro Spot they are different). And for good flavors with consistency, try...
Read moreWow. I visit Poke Bar locations frequently and I’m dumbfounded at what I just witnessed. Came in Thursday PM, around 7:00. 2/4 staff members there were not trained. They couldn’t even follow the “steps” of building their own poke bowls. Customer next to me had his order messed up as his staff member skipped a step and he asked him to add said step to his bowl, and that staff member had zero clue what he had said, so the customer was patient with him and just moved on. That male staff member also had no customer service skills, as he would respond with “what?” and “anything?” instead of appropriately addressing the customer. The other untrained staff member had one of the trained staff members tell her what she did was wrong (pretty awkward to do in front of customers). It was just clear that this team of 4 was not functioning well and it was not making the experience well for myself and the other customers around me. Trained staff member at the cashier also gave mouth to the delivery driver. He made an off comment, but definitely wasn’t warranted for her to do that. Pretty unprofessional..
Oh, and the portions were incredibly small. I’ve attached a picture of my bowl. Paying $20 for barely any fish was pretty...
