I’ve traveled all across the country and multiple other countries and have never left a bad review until this. I DO NOT RECOMMEND staying here:
Birthday candle = $500 charge to your room, so watch out!! The rooms have “vape sensors” that automatically charge your card if it detects ANY chemicals that are found in many common items. Guy at the front desk even admitted they are so faulty that cologne can set them off. This is the Romer house staff admitting this themselves directly to us that they actively use faulty equipment to charge people $500.
What’s worse- First person I talked to told me there’s nothing I can do about the charge and that “they have no way of removing it”. TOTAL BS, At check out my girlfriend brought it up again and showed it was her birthday on her ID and all of a sudden the charge is gone! WTF was that BS about they can’t remove it?? Literally tried to slap us with a fraudulent $500 based on faulty equipment they even told me was inaccurate, and then LIED TO MY FACE that they couldn’t do anything about it. He even went as far as saying that if I talked to someone else I would get the same response- TOTAL BS! I have never been lied to my face over something like this so wantonly in my life. Thankfully the guy at check out was way more ethical and understanding, but overall NOT A FUN WAY to spend your vacation worrying about random $500 charges!
Rooms are also TINY since their goal is to trap you with the first price and then get you to upgrade later.
We also called for things like towels, toilet paper and soap (which they forgot to put in our room) with no response on multiple occasions, even when we called again later they said they would send someone up and they never even came. This happened 3-4 times. Imagine not having toilet paper when you need it and getting no response when you call for it.
There’s a $50/day valet for parking (the only realistic option) so go ahead and add around $200-$300 to your bill.
On top of this there’s even more charges that will magically appear on your credit card statement- and they will NOT work with you on anything unless you get extremely lucky apparently. They’ll even tell you it’s just a hold, and then leave it on and charge you anyway. They charge, deny, ignore and leave you in the dust. Hopefully your credit card company is willing to work with you on all the charges they quietly tack on, because Romer House is NOT going to. The staff weren’t rude, but most of them will repeat the same generic response without moving an inch to help you figure out what’s going on, and you might have to forget it if you want them to remove any charges.
Will not be staying here for any of my future visits and will not be recommending this place to any of my friends! PLEASE Spend your money elsewhere. Good location but they are obviously a tourist trap assuming you won’t come back again, so they won’t have to have any consequences for the way they do business. A good lesson for me to check reviews before booking, never making this...
Read moreWhere to begin, my wife and I stayed here for 7 nights. We were told to call when we landed to see if we could get early check in which we did and unfortunately they didn’t have any rooms ready which was fair. We arrived at the hotel about three hours early from our check in time (no rooms ready, which was understandable since it was the day after the big outage and guests extended their stay), we got a card on file and they held our bags while we explored until our check in time which was 3pm. When we got back it seemed like they still didn’t have a room that I had paid for already, ready so they upgraded us which we appreciated. We got to the room and my wife took a shower after our tiring flight, when I hear her call my name to tell me that the room we just arrived to had no body wash and the towels smelled funky. The room didn’t seem to get vacuumed the whole 7 nights we stayed here or even before we arrived. My wife found a pill capsule container and the drawer had an Oreo in it from previous guests which we left. Housekeeping is done every other day, but they don’t clean the shower or surfaces or change the sheets, they seem to only make the bed and bring towels, there has been a gross orange smudge on the balcony door our whole stay. The A/C isn’t great either, it’s loud and doesn’t seem to make the room any cooler no matter what you set the temperature to on the thermostat. The room door brings in an additional loud air noise that sounds like whistling that lasts all day and night. The TV was annoying to connect to, every single time we tried to connect the code would change until it decides to work. Also when you try to sign onto the WiFi it asks for your room number and tries to charge $1 per day which I don’t know if it actually would. It’s not about the $1 per day it’s about the fact that it’s part of what you paid for already so it shouldn’t say any type of charge. Overall this hotel has a lot of kinks to work out ,the only thing we enjoyed about this hotel was its location and some staff members that were absolutely nice. A big shoutout to an older gentleman that works as a valet, my wife and I were always looking forward to seeing him because he was very kind and held the door every time and welcomed us in with a huge smile. When we asked for a partial refund for a resort fee which was almost $400, because we weren’t satisfied with the service we had been given and because we didn’t use any of the “amenities” like the pool which is basically a hot tub which doesn’t make much sense to me since you’re hot all day and get sweaty you think you would want to get into a cool refreshing pool and not an almost hot tub. they offered us a $50 food/drink credit the day we were leaving (we left at 9am). Other guest had asked me in the elevator if housekeeping had come to our room because they were having a hard time getting theirs cleaned and about the ac not working right so it wasn't just me experiencing the...
Read moreI stayed at the Romer House Waikiki for seven nights as a solo traveler. It was important to me as a solo female traveler that I find somewhere I feel safe. I felt very safe at this hotel, and the staff are some of the best I've come across. Very friendly, shoutout to Peter and Jamie. Peter works the pool bar, super awesome dude, and Jamie works the front desk, very kind and helpful. The hotel opened up in June 2024 and was recently renovated. It's very clean and is very beautiful. Check-in was quick and easy, as was checkout. The room was small but super cute and plenty for one traveler. If you're staying with a friend or partner, I would suggest upgrading to a bigger room. I do partially wish I upgraded to a patio suite, but it wasn't often I was in my room during sunlight hours. The bathroom was great. I loved the lighting. I was expecting the shower to leak after reading a ton of reviews but had no problems with the shower whatsoever. The pressure was perfect, the water temperature was great, and there no leaking onto the floor. The rooms are cleaned every three days, I did struggle a little to get mine cleaned, mostly I wanted the leftover food I had to get picked up. I had to reach out after mine was missed, but they came on the fourth day. They provided all new clean towels, which was great. Overall, I would stay here again and enjoyed my stay.
Here is a list of my pros and cons of the hotel.
Pros: They provide you with two complimentary water bottles upon arrival in your mini fridge, this was a great touch. There is also a water station on the first floor after you get off the elevator to refill these. They also offer water with plastic cups by the pool. The location is great, it's a five minute walk from the beach and a couple minutes from Duke's market and a ton of food places, shops, and bus stops. They provide a hair dyer and a decent one. They have shampoo and conditioners on the wall in the shower. I loved this. Usually, it's tiny bottles enough for one shower, so this was great. They provide liquid soap and lotion over a soap bar. They provide each room with a clothes steamer instead of an iron board. Adults only, no splashing of kids by the pool! They hold onto your baggage after checkout for people who have a late flight. They provide beach towels. Room has a safe.
Cons The walls are paper thin, I was on the 10th floor and could hear stuff going on in the streets and the couple arguing a room over. Luckily, it wasn't too loud most nights, but some evenings I heard a lot of noise and doors slamming. The AC unit isn't great. I tried to get it as cold as possible and slept without a blanket most nights because I was really warm. It was also quite a noisy unit. The pool isn't really a pool, it's more like a warm hottub. No microwave, as mentioned in the amenities The resort fee is very high, I was surprised to find out their daily fee is higher than...
