Scratch Kitchen Overall Rating: 8.5/10 (Total cost: $81 without the pancakes and including gratuity). Deep Fried Deviled Eggs – $12 Crisp and satisfying, the deep-fried deviled eggs immediately impress with a sweet, lemon-zesty sauce. I’m unsure if it's pickled radish— but if it is— it adds a bright, acidic contrast, while the subtle heat from the jalapeño beautifully enhances the dish’s sweetness. A lively starter with balanced complexity. 8/10 Escargot – $17 A standout of the evening. The Cajun seasoning is expertly balanced, offering bold flavor without overpowering the tender, perfectly cooked escargot. Generous portions and thoughtful garnishing elevate the experience. A flawless execution. 10/10 Bacon Mac and Cheese – $16 An indulgent and satisfying dish featuring a generous white cheddar cheese pull. The crunchy bacon bits provided necessary textural contrast, balancing the richness without making the dish overly dense. A surprisingly well-executed comfort food favorite. 8.5/10 Da Classic – $18 A traditional plate of eggs, bacon, and potatoes. While the delivery was competent, the price point feels high for a common dish. A safe, accessible choice for diners seeking familiarity. 7/10 Milk and Cereal Pancakes – $16 While initially appealing, the dish fell short in execution. The pancakes were slightly undercooked, likely due to high-heat preparation common in fast-paced kitchens, resulting in a dense, chewy texture. Toppings included Frosted Flakes, blueberries, strawberries, and bananas, but the condensed milk made the dish overly heavy. Eating it alongside the Frosted Flakes helped lighten the experience. A nice concept that is recommend for those with a sweet tooth. 5/10 Atmosphere Scratch RV offers a cozy, "hole-in-the-wall" charm with warm lighting and a comfortable, ambient environment. The restaurant's temperature was ideal, the seating was comfortable, and the people were laid back rather than tense. They even serve margaritas during brunch! Service Service was exceptional. Staff were attentive, courteous, and prompt. A particular highlight was the server's professionalism in removing the pancake charge after a delay, ensuring a positive dining experience throughout. Final Thoughts: Scratch Kitchen delivers on both food and service, with a few minor stumbles along the way. For a casual yet thoughtfully prepared meal, this spot is highly recommended.

Whenever I am in Honolulu I always eat at Scratch Kitchen for its unique and onolicious food! A perfect blend of Hawaiian, Asian and Southern flavors!! I love going to the Scratch Kitchen in Ward, but now that there is a one in East Honolulu taking up the former Outback Steakhouse Spot. it is even better. The food is just as amazing and perfect. Breakfast, brunch, and dinner - the menu can satisfy all cravings! One of my favorites is the Spicy Southern Fried Chicken & Waffles, which are cooked to perfection and soooo delish. Sorry, I ate mine so fast I didn't snap a pic, but trust me, you will be in food heaven! Local boy Chef Brandon is always shaping and sourcing Hawaiian products when available, which makes eating at this Hawaii based and owned restaurant even more meaningful. The salads are always so popular and delish. Plus, we always get several appetizers like the deep fried deviled eggs with pickled jalapeños and pickled onions ( usually sell out!) , Street Tacos, Bacon Mac N Cheese, Crispy Brussels, Lilikoi BBQ Ribs ( mouthwatering and tender) and Crispy Smashed Potatoes. just eating appetizers is satisfying, too! For the main course, the Surf & Turf with Kahuku Shrimp and Steak is a delish combo. The Scratch House Burger or Bacon are cooked to perfection and come with the ideal compliments. For dessert, we ate the brulee'd French toast with punaluu sweet bread and coconut. This is epic! And so are the Milk N Cereal Pancakes. You can order pretty much anything on this menu, and your stomach will be happy! I was also impressed that the Scratch Chef and owner hired the former Outback Steakhouse workers. Leslie worked at Outback and is now a Scratch server. She is not only experienced but also really enjoys serving you! Great food, an amazing view of the water in Hawaii Kai plus superb service, what more could you want!

This restaurant is all it’s hyped up to be. About a year ago, I actually had quite a negative experience trying to come here for dinner. After being put on a waitlist, we were told to wait outside and they would come get us when our table was ready. However, after waiting about 45 minutes we went in to inquire about the situation and were told that they were no longer seating for dinner that evening? Didn’t offer us any alternatives, just that we had to go somewhere else that evening! (Despite being told to wait in the first place…) So this time it was my birthday and I was determined to get those pancakes, so I made sure reservations were made! Haha! A much more positive experience this time around. The staff was very great, super attentive, sweet personalities, just really good, fun-loving vibes all around! I got the milk and cereal pancakes. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. A super cool and unique concept. Very trendy and pretty presentation, even better taste. Milk syrup is very fitting and super yummy. Boyfriend got chilaquiles. Both loved this dish and were happy/surprised to see it on the menu. Don’t see that often, but they did a great job!! We shared the Lilikoi Margarita. I don’t know why I don’t see more about this in the reviews- this was GREAT! SO YUMMY! Well balanced. Very pretty. The li hing on the rim was the selling point for me. Smart use of local ingredients and paired well with the drink. CANNOT WAIT to come back. Such a diverse menu and am impressed with how well such different dishes were executed!

I can not believe this experience. Me and my fiancé were waiting at the front to be ignored for 5mins. People looked at us but ignored us. And when someone acknowledged us asked if we filled out the contract tracing form. I would have filled it out if there was instructions and knew where it was because there was someone else’s prior on the sheet. I wasn’t even sure if that pen was sanitized. Once that was done we were seated at our table. Our server did not look like he wanted to be there. Which was fine we just wanted food. We started with drinks and a ordered two apps. When we were ready to order our entrees we had to grab our server. When our fried deviled eggs drop there was no share plates.. we tried to see if he was going to come back with some since we had one more appetizer coming. Nope! It’s fine we ate off of it. His steak and eggs came out first and my dish dragged 10mins behind. He could’ve brought a share plate in the mean time so I could eat some or both dishes could’ve waited to be dropped off. Once my dish was brought the escargot came and then he brings over the share plate while we had no room on the table. My fiancé ordered a lemonade and the brought over a yuzu lemonade (which had alcohol) we were on our break before heading back to work. He didn’t want to make a fuss of it but I asked our server to please change it or take it away so we don’t get charged for it. But nope. The steak and eggs was not edible. The steak was so tough and over cooked. Our server would’ve known if he checked back on us. We ordered the steak medium rare and it came out well done. We were done and over it and wanted to leave. We looked and looked to find out server. Not sure if there was a shift change since it was 3:30pm but he was no where to be found. It would’ve been nice to know if there was a shift change or change of server. We had to flag someone over to get our check and also was changed for the yuzu lemonade I originally told him I didn’t want to get charged for. This was a ridiculous experience. I can not believe this is how people...

We've gone on 2 other occasions and the food and service was great! I don't know what happened today, but it is horrible. Once seated and our drinks were ordered, we were ignored for a good 15 to 20 mins. Despite the staff walking around and seeing us waiting around, no one came and took our order. Finally, the lady at the front took pity on us and took our order as the lady that took out drink order decided to just never come back. We ordered the shrimp and sausage grits, braised pork belly benedict, side order of waffle and berries, and the Mac and cheese appetizer. It took forever for our food to come out, and when it did the wait time for the rest of our food was ridiculous. The grits came out first, and then we waited another 15 mins for the pork benedict to come out, another 5 for the Mac and cheese, and then another 5 for the waffle for our child. It defeatsbthe purpose of going out to eat when you can't even eat together. Usually, appetizers come out first, and usually, they follow closely after with the meal for the child. Instead, because of the wait time, our child sat and complained about being hungry while all the other food came out except his. Two other tables that were seated on either side of us were presented with their food way before us, despite being seated after us. When we finally got our food it was disappointing at best. No where near as good as the previous times we've eaten there. Again, we were ignored, despite making eye contact with several waiters. We wanted refills on our drinks but couldn't get anyone to come to our table. We then had to flag down another random waiter to finally just get our bill. I've never been to a restaurant and have felt more unwanted before. The quality of service was horrible. The whole experience felt unorganized, and I find it odd that as a minority couple (black and asian) we were completely ostracized by the first waiter that we had (she was white). It just made us feel very uncomfortable. We usually rave about this place and suggest it to all of our friends, but I'll never...
