Had dinner here. The restaurant wasn't all that busy when we came in, and it's possible to make a reservation. Menu is online through QR code, which unfortunately doesn't have pictures or much descriptions about the food or allergen information. The food quality and quantity was sub par and not worth the high price for them, especially the $21 poke, which only came with 3 pieces. The soft shell crab was rather pitiful with only a salad to really leverage the lack of meat you get. Jaga Batta was also just expensive for the simplicity of the dish of just being a $9 Idaho potato pan fried in butter. Moreover, the udon only had Tempura and tofu with not much vegetables to leverage the overall starchyness of the dish overall. Service was rather slow, we had to prompt the waitress to come and take our order for what felt like over 10 minutes. The kitchen had also forgotten our order of yakiudon, which came last when we just didn't feel the need to eat anymore. Moreover, the waitress didn't even come back to our table in regards to change and getting our receipt,so it is best not to pay in cash. Overall, I wouldn't come here again for the subpar service and food quality that just wasn't tasty enough to leverage everything else wrong with the restaurant. I may not be a local, but I wouldn't recommend locals to...

This place was fairly good. Friendly staff, some good food. However, the food items we picked weren't as good as I had hoped. The spicy garlic tuna special roll had a lot of crunch that destroyed the texture and definitely had a lot of garlic, so be warned! The yaki tori was really good and definitely something I recommend. We also had sushi omelet which was sweet and more dessert-y if anything. The salmon sushi was seemingly buttery but otherwise good. We also tried the Serrano pepper ahi poke which was really good! One of the better poke items I've had in Oahu.

So with all being said, it was a solid 4 stars, but after we intended to get the check, it took around 20 minutes to get their attention and get them to ring us up. Unbelievably slow. Mind you, this was lunch time and they were nowhere near capacity. Perhaps it's a nice place to go if you really have no rush, but we intended to leave soon and they took quite a long time to finally let us pay. Otherwise, I decent experience. I think if you know what food is good and what is not, it would be a better experience and more in the 4-5 star range. But, if you're just visiting, it's a little harder to tell (they have a huge...

An ikazaya is supposed to be a casual restaurant where there's a variety of inexpensive food and drink. I hate to focus my review and rating on price - but it was astonishing how expensive it was for the small portions. I would NOT recommend this place for casual food and drinks with your friends unless money is no object. The food was high quality, well except for the yakitori, which tasted like it had been microwaved - not grilled. And I do understand prices have gone up - but our bill for 3 people was $300 and with a 20% tip it was a $360. Not long ago this is what we spent for 4 people at a high end steak house. In Japan, this would cost maybe $100 (no tipping & tax included) for the same food/drink. I have a hard time believing that Japanese food ingredients have skyrocketed so much to justify the prices and can't visualize working class Japanese visitors or locals being able to pay such high prices. The servers...

Authentic Japanese food! The sashimi was incredibly fresh, with the tuna being a standout—sweet, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The mixed green salad with tofu is a great option for anyone looking to add some fresh veggies to their meal. The beef and pork skewers were perfectly cooked—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The squid pancake was also a highlight, especially when paired with soy sauce, which really brought out the natural sweetness of the squid. And to top it all off, the black sesame ice cream was amazing—rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal! Another huge plus—parking is extremely hard to find in the Waikiki neighborhood, but this restaurant makes it so easy with a covered parking lot and an elevator for convenience. Definitely a must-visit for anyone craving high-quality Japanese food. Can’t wait to come back!

My husband and I went on a date here while visiting Hawai'i. We really wanted to be taken back to the izakayas of Japan and this was a fair compromise! The menu list is extensive, with lots of different variations and unique dishes to choose from. The descriptions of the items are also hilarious. Even better if you can read a bit of Japanese to understand the puns they use! The food is on the pricy side and each dish can add up quickly. Our bill came to just under $100 USD (roughly $125 CAD at the time) versus ~$65 CAD at an izakaya in Japan. Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun trying different dishes that were available. All of the servers were quick and were more than happy to describe a dish or recommend their favourites. We came on a Tuesday night and the place was still packed. Get a reservation ahead of time, if you can!
