I was on vacation in Honolulu over the weekend. After having a great time scuba-diving, I was very excited to see what I could grab to eat! As a Korean, I tried to look for dishes that matched with my taste palette. I looked through the menu and I found a good, solid amount of spicy meat dishes. It was as if the restaurant knew exactly what I was looking for! After having a good look through their menu, I decided on the Peppery Beef on Sizzling Platter. Before the food even arrived to the table, I cannot even explain to you how eager I became once I smelled the aromatic spices of the dish. The taste was delectable, and I would fly back just to eat it again. For my choice of veggies, I went with the eggplant dish which complemented my craving for meat very well. I was suffering with light constipation after I landed in Honolulu, but this dish served to be a great solution. I was blessed to have been served by the manager Michael and his associates. Their timely service made my already awesome experience into a memorable one. I was very surprised to hear the manager conversing in Chinese at one table, Japanese at another table, and English at the next. Service at this restaurant was definitely one of a kind. Although I wasn't very familiar with Chinese food, the photos on their website seemed so appetizing that I just knew I had to give this place a try. The restaurant was located near the Ala Wai golf course, and their parking directions were conveniently illustrated on their website. If you are ever in Honolulu, make sure to try House of Wong!

I came to Honolulu for an industry convention at the Honolulu Convention Center and my company booked House of Wong for our lunch time business meeting. My hotel was in Waikiki and it was a short walk to House of Wong with my coworkers and the executives at my company. I really liked the location of House of Wong, it was peaceful and right outside the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. I ordered multiple rounds of Kirin Japanese beers for the entire company. I was surprised they had so many beers in stock for how much the people in my company can drink! Business deduction? House of Wong also had TV's available so we were able to host a slideshow on there while we ate. My interns brought along a setup so we could do a presentation on the side of the restaurant. The workers were gracious to help us set up, even though it was not part of their job. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town!

WARNING: Be skeptical about the food and prices. We ordered a Dungeness crab that they said was 2+lbs. And they charge by Pound. When the crab came out it looked more like 1.5lbs at most with the smallest claw I’ve ever seen on a Dungesness crab. And because they don’t weigh it in front of you, you have no way to verify this. The flavor was good. Another dish we ordered was the Chinese Cabbage with Dried Scallop. What we got was Shanghai Bok Choy with Dried Scallop. When you google Chinese Cabbage, you expect something like napa cabbage. Photo attached is the dish they served. They flavor was good. Overall service was ok. But the hot towels they gave us before the meal started smelled horrible like mildew or stale water. It was gross after we used it our hands smelled like the towel.

We were turned away even though we had a confirmed dinner reservation on Christmas. Knowing that Chinese restaurants can fill up quickly on Christmas, we booked weeks ago for a party of 2. I confirmed by phone and again by text since they book via Yelp. Upon arrival they were so swamped with take-away orders that no one was assisting the numerous other customers like ourselves that had booked reservations prior to the evening. I went to the counter and asked what we should do if we had a reservation and the gentlemen just gestured vaguely and said "sit over there," and then I asked if he needed my name for the reservation and I was told "No, we don't really look at the Yelp reservations anyway, just sit down." 20 minutes later when no on came to the table I went to another of the servers and asked if we could get a menu and was told that they couldn't handle us tonight after all since they were so busy (he was bundling up take-away orders). So we left unfortunately without ever having eaten. I absolutely understand that Christmas is a busy time for restaurants, but to be dismissed so flippantly while actually having made a reservation was a huge disappointment, especially on a holiday. Obviously not a restaurant we will ever visit again, even though we live in Honolulu and had been looking forward to...

My experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing and uncomfortable from start to finish. Despite there being only one other guest when we arrived, we had to wait an unnecessary amount of time just to be seated – they saw us but didn’t bother to greet us.

Once seated, we placed our order, but it seemed like the waiter was in such a hurry that he only noted down two out of the three items we requested. After a long wait, we had to get up and go to the counter ourselves to ask about the missing order. It felt unprofessional and careless.

The most upsetting part was when the waiter brought a paper plate for my daughter. This is a restaurant, not a casual backyard party, and I expected proper dining standards. Not only that, but we felt like we were being judged the entire time, possibly due to our color, as they never brought water to our table or came to check on us. Any requests we had required us to go directly to the counter.

Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. We left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable, and we will not...
