wow! what a special restaurant! i am sooo glad i found this place. the family that runs it is wonderful and if you’re lucky you will hear the dad playing the okinawan sanshi, a beautiful instrument. this is authentic okinawan food in a really cool atmosphere that reminds me of some of the japanese restaurants i used to go to growing up in LA that are not there anymore. a must for any asian or asian american who appreciates family owned restaurants! the sushi was amazing, such delicious and “soft” fish. i would absolutely recommend the okinawan soba - the meat was very tender and flavorful, and as my grandmother used to always tell me, make sure to eat the marrow from the bone. super nutritious! next time i want to try the bitter melon dish and more of their soup offerings! i also appreciated the pricing here; you get good quality for the price! do yourself a favor and check out this magical spot :)

Let's talk. I found this place only while here on G- maps. If you know about real real, this place served up the real real real. The locals are 2000% right about Sunrise Restaurant. Yes, I dined-in, and ate like my usual piggy self. The sushi rocks, and it's fresh! Not fluffed up with watered down wasabi and flavorkess ginger. Let me repeat that. The sushi rocks! We also had the bitter melon and the dynamite. Bow to the food gods. Thank you. If you're after all that atmosphere, well you might not be. However, you will be - if you're after the real real. 21/4/23 Back visiting again, and enjoyed another delicious dinner. This place is a must eat. I'll repeat what I said before. It's not fluffed up with watered down tourist food. I enjoyed sushi, sparerib soup, bitter melon, and grilled salmon. 5 star delicious 🤤😋😋

Stumbled across this must try Japanese restaurant in Honolulu. So glad I found this gem. Once you walk into Sunrise you automatically feel like you entered a home kitchen where you know you'll be served food from the heart and soul. The restaurant has been around for over 2 decades and the husband and wife owners of the restaurant were so nice and welcoming. They even preformed a song in between the cooking and serving which was such a special treat. Hands down one of the best hamachi kamas I ever had and the ahi tuna was fresh and delish. This restaurant is definitely a must visit every time we are in Honolulu. Best to make a reservation or call the restaurant to see if there are any openings if it's the same day
