Big Bad Breakfast (BBB) in Birmingham, Alabama, is a culinary gem that elevates the traditional Southern breakfast experience. Founded by James Beard award-winning chef John Currence, BBB offers a menu that honors the first meal of the day with flair. Upon entering, you're greeted by a lively atmosphere filled with friendly staff and the aroma of freshly brewed, locally roasted Octane Coffee. The interior boasts a cool vibe, enhanced by great music and a bustling crowd. The menu is a delightful array of breakfast classics with a twist. House-made biscuits are a standout, perfectly paired with custom meats sourced from Alabama. For those seeking a hearty option, the shrimp and grits come highly recommended, offering a flavorful blend of creamy grits topped with succulent shrimp. Service is prompt and attentive, even during peak hours. Diners have noted that despite short waits, orders arrive quickly and accurately, contributing to an overall solid dining experience. For those who enjoy a sweet start, the pancakes are a must-try, described as "epic" and satisfying. The Big Bad Skillet is another favorite, featuring a medley of eggs, hashbrowns, and savory toppings that leave a lasting impression. If you're dining with a furry friend, the Highway 280 location offers a dog-friendly patio, making it a perfect spot for pet owners. In summary, Big Bad Breakfast in Birmingham is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination that celebrates the art of breakfast. With its exceptional food, inviting atmosphere, and top-notch service, it's a must-visit for both locals and travelers alike.

This was my first visit today. The restaurant has been open for a while and I have not visited because everyone that I know who has been there did not have anything good to say about them. I went today because they were one of the few restaurants that have opened up during the pandemic with indoor seating. The hostess was very nice and all of the employees were wearing gloves and masks. The restaurant was very clean and they hand sanitizer available everywhere. The menu was hard for me to see because the print was so small so I just ordered what I wanted. The server was very nice and she had a name for what I ordered but I can’t remember what it was. I ordered two scrambled eggs with toast, spicy bacon and some kind of potato wedge. my friend ordered the same thing with grits instead of potatoes. we both drank coffee and the bill ended up being $26 before tip. In summary, when this restaurant is the only game in town then it’s not a bad choice. They do have an outdoor seating area that is very nice and you could bring your puppy with you if you want. I will give them another try. The big bad breakfast is not very big and not very bad but they do have breakfast. I would change the name to “B3”, make the menu print larger and have a less expensive option for everyday patrons. I say Bring $40 and give them a try.

Wow! It’s been almost a month since we visited and I’m still raving about this place! It was recommended to me by a coworker who used to live in Birmingham, he said it was great. Originally I was going to the other location near Homewood but that place was packed and there was no parking so even though this location was farther, I took a chance and I’m so glad I did! Best breakfast on our entire week and a half trip! The portions were perfect, I usually like to get something salty and something sweet so I ordered their regular bacon and eggs breakfast and the waffles. I think the best part was that the food itself is simple breakfast food but it’s so outstanding that you’re blown away. Also the coffee was very good, which is something most breakfast diners skimp out on. And the highlight of the whole thing was the biscuit, OMG I asked for strawberry jam and it was so delicious. I’ve looked up where there are other BBB near me, and if y’all would like to open another franchise location please try Jacksonville, FL😉

I really wanted to like this place and like this place but I have to be honest and say that it wasn't all of that. Cute? YES. Clean? YES Friendly service? Absolutely. Food? "Ding" ..... a huge one.....

This place definitely gets a lot of business. The wait was about 45 minutes, on a Sunday, for brunch. That was to be expected. We opted to sit at the bar tops as they were first come; first serve. The servers introduced themselves appropriately and were super friendly; in the midst of the Sunday chaos. They checked on us pretty frequently and seemed to balance themselves well in the midst of being busy.

On to the food..... I will begin with what was great! The pancake! The menu never lied when it described it as being the "fluffiest" you will ever take. Speaking of pancake....you can substitute a side for a pancake; with no additional charge! Most of the places in which I've visited do NOT let you do this and I thought this was definitely a way to stand out. My eggs were pretty bland and seemed to be lacking in seasoning. I did NOT like that the only non-pork item was the chicken sausage. I could be wrong, but I would have sworn that the chicken sausage looked identical to the pork and it was difficult to tell the difference. Although there are many ppl who eat pork; it is important to provide options for those that have specific lifestyle habits or needs. I was not full at the conclusion of my meal; so I felt as though the portion size could be a little better.

This place gets a lot of business so maybe it is just me. I am uncertain if I...

We came 10 min till 10am, there was a wait of approximately 25 min, its understood give or take maybe more or less. Our wait time turned into 45 min, I asked the hostess about our wait time, and she said that there would be 3 more ahead us. This wait then turned into a hour and a half wait, so I went back again to ask about us being seated and she had already moved onto another guest list and a line had been drawn through my name on the old list. We were seated right outside the front door, so we heard EVERY single name called, so it was no way we missed it. This kind of ruined my first experience at this restaurant as it has been given rave reviews from people that I know and the written reviews. Several people that came in after us were seated before us including someone that the hostess apparently knew because she hugged this lady, and she walked them inside and they were seated before us. This is bad business and very unprofessional. But on to the food, i ordered the fried chicken, which was really good, seasoned very well, the grits which are a nogo for me, taste more like polenta, if youre from the south you know there is a difference, the consistency was not right, i am used to a creamy buttery flavor, they were gritty. I also ordered one pancake a la Carte, very good, and i also had fruit which i didnt eat because there was a short hair maybe an eyelash on it, which the waitress was very nice about substituting, it was no biggie it happens. Sweet tea was also very good. I would come back, maybe at a time when it is...
