Pollo Lucas — Restaurant in Hoover

Most of the restaurants I visit I stop by on a whim. I don’t check reviews before hand so as not to be jaded and I want to experience it for myself without someone telling me what to think. This is one of those stops. I drove by it a few times and I finally stopped in.

My first time I got what it looks like they are known for. The grilled chicken. It was good but could have been cooked a bit longer. Maybe even crispier? Hotter? The next visit I went for the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. I also ordered chips and salsa. They use pulled grilled chicken in the enchiladas. The mole sauce was amazing. Some of the best I’ve ever had. With a kick to it. Not over powering. The chicken inside was very tender.

My only disappointment was that the tortilla chips were stale. That shouldn’t happen in a restaurant like this. I’ll come back because I do like the place but it maybe they just got a bad batch.

Great service, affordable food, and most importantly made with fresh ingredients and cooked to order. This is not a fast food restaurant, its better. I ordered the #1, 2 pieces of grilled chicken with my choice of two sides. I chose the rice, beans, and they provided five (5) corn tortillas. The combos are served with a medium drink. It was $9 and some change. The chicken is marinated and grilled. The.portion size for the chicken equals about 1/4 of a chicken. The chicken is seasoned well and the meat is moist.
