The food at Sunny’s is consistently high quality and fresh, which makes my recent visit particularly disappointing. Upon entering this particular location, I couldn’t help but notice that it could benefit from improved management and a more inviting ambiance.
After being seated, I ordered beverages; however, I was immediately put off by the state of the environment. The floors were excessively sticky, and my table was wobbling significantly. It appeared that management was indifferent to these issues, as I resorted to using one of their “fancy” napkins to stabilize the table. When I requested to switch to another table, the waitress informed me that all tables had similar instability issues.
I recognize that my observations may seem overly critical, but the consistency of the cleanliness left much to be desired. The tables were also sticky, suggesting a lack of proper sanitation procedures; it seemed as though the same mop had been used for the floors and the same rag for the tables throughout the week. That is my assumption though cause it was very sticky.
I do like the other Sunny sushi’s just this one first impression wasn’t the best.
I observed an individual, presumably the manager, frequently moving in and out of the kitchen, but their attire—a dirty Sunny’s shirt—was incongruent with the expectations of a well-maintained establishment. Typically, when visiting Sunny’s, we receive prompt service with water and a warm welcome, but this visit did not reflect that standard.
While I understand that every establishment can have an off day, first impressions are crucial. I apologize for airing these grievances, but I cannot comfortably dine in an unsanitary environment, especially as we were celebrating my wife's birthday.
I am not saying it to the hard workers that work there. I’m saying it to the manager that verify’s the cleanliness of the place. This comment might not matter but I appreciate...
Read moreGreat place that probably hits the perfect junction of quality and price. Can you find better sushi in El Paso County? Sure, but you'll pay almost double. Can you find cheaper sushi? Also yes, but it will be atrocious to eat, and you run the risk of being poisoned by salmonella, botulism, e.coli, rotavirus, and cancerAIDS from the same meal. No, Sunny's is that baby-bear-style of "just right" when Goldilocks is craving a good sushi roll that won't cost $30 when you add a beverage. I did feel like the dessert was priced a liiiiittle high (it was a bit small), but then again, there aren't a lot of places that could even tell you what green tea mochi ice cream actually IS, let alone serve a delicious and beautiful plate of it.
Atmosphere is on the nicer side of casual. Music isn't so loud that you have to yell at everyone, and all of the accessible area (including restrooms) are clean and appropriately style. (First whiner to say anything about cultural appropriation is going to get karate kicked in the throat; I can totally do that, because I am Asian, and that makes me automatically good at martial arts.) Staff is friendly and courteous, and my server was even willing to try delivering my compliments to the chef in Japanese. Of course, knowing my level of Japanese, I might have asked him to marry me instead of saying the food was good.
TL;DR - do you need sushi, but don't need servers in yukata or a $40 per person cheque? Then go to Sunny's....
Read moreSo they definitely need more help because initially I was not greeted and I spoke to one of the sushi chefs about my order and he looked very confused and said “that doesn’t sound familiar, someone else will help you” and continued what he was doing. So I went back to the at the time crowded door way entrance and a man (assuming manager) looked at my digital ticket cux I made my order online then handed me my food which was bagged on the lil sushi bar. I shoulda checked to make sure everything was there but I didn’t. I got back home and realized I was missing the stir fry so I called and they said oh yeah it’s here without getting my name so they already knew they had messed up. So I went back to get the stir fry and the greeter offered her apologies but I’m pretty much over it. The sushi is pretty high priced and for the money I paid I expected better customer service and for my food to all be together if it’s bagged. I additionally paid extra to get jalapeño added to my California roll and did not get that. There was literally one piece of shrimp in the crunchy shrimp roll and I’m use to any shrimp with tails on to be shrimp tempura unless otherwise specified. Overall it was an okay experience but definitely not worth the...
