The restaurant was extremely dirty and that is an understatement. Immediately upon walking in both of us thought we were walking on chewing gum, the floors were that sticky. The table we were sat at was not clean and we realized why as we watched people come, order, eat and leave at booths and tables around us. The staff cleared the plates but did not wipe the tables or seats. One father and daughter were seated in the booth next to us and the daughter started complaining about how dirty and disgusting the table was to her father. We were afraid to touch anything which was a serious distraction for a dining experience.
The service was extremely rushed. We were seated and within 2 minutes our server “Trynytee”, (that is what is on the ticket), asked what we wanted to drink and eat. We have never been there and we’re trying just to figure out the menus, both drinks and food options. Within the next 5 minutes she asked twice more…we were not in a hurry and don’t care to be rushed when eating out or at home. I finally ordered a beer and a water and my wife ordered a purple shake just to make her go away for a few minutes. The high pressure to order was over the top for a location like this. We made our food choices and I select an adult shake which was what I wanted to begin with. We both ordered burgers, fries and I got a side salad. My burger was slightly over cooked because my wife ordered hers well done and the cook assumed both of us wanted them well, although I told Trynytee that I did not want mine well.
A few strange things also happened with the waitstaff. There were many more than were required by the level of business occurring and they all sat around the bar talking and just watching patrons. It could have been training but they should do this at a table away from the main dining areas. While we were there, all patrons were seated in the the same few booths over and over again. One family refused the both because it was so dirty and sat at a table. The next patron to be offered that booth made them clean it before he and his friend would sit there. And one of the servers parter came in with a baby which was passed around to all the severs. Not saying that was wrong but none washed after touching the baby which just seems a bit unsanitary. Again, both of these are further examples of the lack of cleanliness of the Purple Cow, IMHO.
This was our first time to visit Hot Springs AK and the Purple Cow was recommended by family members. The shakes were good and the burgers tasty even mine being a little overcooked.
We had a great time yesterday and today on a short weekend visit that we are already planning to come back to Hot Springs. We both doubt we would ever eat again at the Purple Cow.

Special thank you to Sara at The Purple Cow Restaurant in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming establishment, and I must say, the experience was truly delightful. As I was dining alone, Sara's warm welcome and attentive service made me feel right at home.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the French Philly Steak. If you're a fan of both French cuisine and classic American flavors, this dish is an absolute must-try. The Purple Cow has truly mastered the art of combining the two, creating a culinary masterpiece that left me craving for more.
The French Philly Steak is a delectable twist on the traditional Philadelphia cheesesteak, infused with French flair. Tender slices of perfectly seasoned steak are sautéed with onions, peppers, and a medley of aromatic herbs, creating a symphony of flavors that dance on your palate. The addition of melted Swiss cheese adds a creamy richness that complements the savory meat and vegetables beautifully.
But what truly sets this dish apart is the bread. The Purple Cow takes it up a notch by using a fresh, crusty baguette instead of the usual hoagie roll. The combination of the crispy exterior and soft, pillowy interior adds an extra layer of texture and elevates the overall dining experience.
Each bite of the French Philly Steak was a delightful explosion of flavors. The steak was perfectly cooked to a juicy medium-rare, and the blend of spices infused it with a tantalizing aroma. The tender onions and peppers provided a subtle sweetness, while the melted Swiss cheese brought a creamy, tangy element to the dish. It was a harmonious marriage of ingredients that left me thoroughly satisfied.
To accompany my meal, I opted for a side of golden, crispy French fries, which were a perfect accompaniment to the steak. The portion size was generous, and the fries were cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Overall, my experience at The Purple Cow Restaurant was exceptional, thanks in large part to Sara's attentive service. The French Philly Steak was a true standout, showcasing the culinary prowess of the kitchen. I highly recommend visiting this delightful establishment and indulging in their culinary creations. Read moreI heard and read about this location last year when I was here but covid shut things down. Came back up this year for a visit decided to give it a try. There's a lot of positive on my experience on the food side and my waitress side. There's a little negative on a couple of things I observed while dining in. First of all spacious location lots of seating. Both indoor and outdoor seating and seating at the counter on stools. Good classic old school 50s and 60s music playing over the speakers. Also in the lobby they had coloring sheets that kids had done while they were there. My waitress Elaina was super super awesome. Sparkling personality, great descriptions of some of my food choices that I was thinking about. She gave me her recommendations as well. Just overall one of the better waitresses I've had in a while. I had the half pound steak knife bacon ranch cheddar burger with fries and a sweet tea. The fries were well seasoned and tasted good. the burger was well cooked and everything on it meshed together well. it was a great tasting burger. for dessert I had a purple vanilla milkshake. They have several items on the menu that can be turned purple. I definitely recommend this location for their food it really tasted good. On the negative side when I arrived and was seated at my table about 5-6 employees were all sitting at the counter talking and visiting. one of the workers and his possible wife or girlfriend were hugging on each other out in the eating area. Another worker who is seating people at their tables kept putting her head down sleeping and then looking up every once in awhile to see if someone was at the front door for her to wait on and get them to a table. The issue is not that they were sitting together and visiting it's the fact that they were doing it at the front of the restaurant within sight of customers. They certainly could have taken it to the back area a little further out of eye view. But this is just a personal deal that I am a stickler for. I don't want to see workers hugging and kissing and carrying on in front of me at a restaurant establishment. Otherwise good food, good atmosphere with the music. And of course my friendly, helpful server Elaina. if I come back to Hot Springs to visit again I would stop here and eat and try...
