This past Sunday evening, I had an Uber Eats pick up order for a customer at Brookstreet BBQ at Montrose. I had never been here and have never heard of this restaurant. But, when I walked in, I said, "My gosh it smells so good in here. I think I'm gonna order me something to go." And then when I went up to pick up the order; I said to the gentleman that was serving, "Wow! that looks delicious!" (referring to the brisket in front of him) and he said, "I'm gonna cut you a sample to let you taste." And I said, "Really? oh my goodness, thank you!" and he cut me a nice slice, put it in a small card board container and gave me a fork. That brisket was so delicious! so tender and juicy and well seasoned! After one bite, I said to him, "I'm going to get my pay card out of my car; I'll be right back." Of course, I ordered a brisket plate with a choice two sides: some yummy looking mashed potatoes w/cheese on it and some green beans. After a couple of hours later when I got home; I got with it! That food was so NICE!! I'm so grateful for that uber eats customer order! Otherwise I probably would have never known such a gem existed and less than six miles from me!! Oh! You can bet your bottom brisket I'll be back! P.S. No, I did not delay picking up or delivering the customer's order for mine; theirs was still being prepared and I had time to place my order and they were both ready to go at the same time👍🏽 By the way, Santiago was the gentleman that let me sample that delicious, tender brisket and Jesus (Hayseus) was the one that cashed me out at the register and these guys were super hospitable and had great customer service skills! I appreciate that and I will definitely come back for the food and the...
Read moreI want to give them 5 stars just based on how delicious the brisket was, because that really is the main thing I look for in Texas bbq. Pro-tip, always ask for the "moist" brisket, even if you hate that word. It's worth it! I took off one star for the inconsistent quality of the sides, though. The loaded mashed potatoes & creamed corn were delicious, and the pickled onions that came on the side at no extra charge were a welcome surprise- absolutely loved that! The french bread Texas toast was also really good, a twist on your typical Texas toast. Not sure how they cooked that, but they did a great job! The jalapeno sausage was disappointing- no real flavor & the texture was really soft. The potato salad was so-so and on the sweet side, & that's one of the staples of any bbq joint imo. The green beans, while not always on offer at a bbq place, looked good, so I was a little disappointed when they ended up bland & kinda greasy. The sweet tea... well, go ahead and get the bottle of real sugar Coke from Mexico, instead. It was a tea leaf that probably tastes pretty good brewed hot & mixed with less sweetener (or none at all) but it didn't translate over to cold, sweet tea for me. Maybe you'd disagree, I guess. Overall, I love the vibe- it's a unique building that has been made into a nice restaurant. Nothing pretentious, it's a very clean, welcoming spot & the aroma that greets you in the parking lot will make your mouth water! I hope they perfect everything on the menu, but in the meantime, I'll happily go back & try the other sides to see...
