OMG I am so glad I found this store! My son, a 17 year-old senior, has an athletic build: 42L jacket, 32 inch waist, muscular thighs (soccer player) and he is 6'3". I just spent $450 at Men's Warehouse on a tuxedo jacket and black slacks due to the alterations needed--they made him go up to a 38' waist to fit his thighs and they charged me $$$ to let the thigh out and take the waist in by so much. After multiple online searches, I came across this store. I was annoyed thinking I would have to order online and then wait and see, because I knew it was unlikely they would work. Lo and behold, I noticed a locations tab on their website and saw they had a Houston location! I made plans to go the next day (he has two UT Austin freshman dinners coming up that required him to get a little dressed up).
Parking was super easy (there is an entrance on the right hand side to the garage right after you pass the store). They don't validate, so if that bothers you try to find street parking. I found the store and went inside where I was greeted immediately and explained my situation to the manager (super cool guy, but I have forgotten his name). He was 6'3.5" and explained that the pants get longer as the waist size goes up, but that they have a tailor they work with that could give us a fast turnaround (1-2 days I believe), if we needed to let the hem out.
I gave him Ian's measurements and he recommended the 33", so I grabbed those, but I also added a 34" just in case. The 33" fit his waist, but was a little snug in the thighs and a smidge short; the 34" was a smidge large in the waist, but perfect everywhere else! In addition, the pants were so comfortable, after he tried them on he just starting lounging in them. I am so happy I found State and Liberty and plan on buying a matching jacket and shirt as they are also athletically cut. I highly recommend this store for everyone with an athletic figure. They also clothe a lot of wedding parties if you are looking for coordinated groomsmen looks. Custom suiting is also an option.
Nice bonus: top shelf alchohol for customers to sip on while shopping.
Nicer bonus: military discounts with ID (VA, or actual military ID as they need to see the branch you served in, not the...
Read moreI was planning on absolutely ripping this company apart on my review, but the guys in the store were nice and tried to be helpful. But i owe it to you all to be honest. They advertise a CUSTOM fit for athletic build, but they do not specialize in that. My husband is a very buff guy with big arms and shoulders and he ordered a completely custom tailored suit. It was absolutely terrible. The cut and sewing and measurements were all wrong. They gave excuses about the long wait time for alterations also saying things about the fabric orders being wrong from their vendor, etc. We went here 6 months before our wedding and the final suit came in for us to pick up TWO DAYS before the wedding and it looked terrible. We ended up having to go to another suit company that SAVED THE DAY and got alterations done for us in ONE DAY turnaround time! If you buy a suit off the rack, they’re decent, but DO NOT try to get a custom tailored suit from this place, especially if you need it in less than 6 months. The guys in the store were nice and gave my hubby an off the rack suit to take to our tailor to try to remedy the situation. I do appreciate that, but as nice as they are, they aren’t tailors and aren’t properly trained. They cannot accomplish what they advertise, and on our pickup day they forgot to even put the vest in the bag. Also, the whole athletic fit stretchy idea is great in theory, but the fabric on their suits is SO thin that you can see the pocket liner lines and underwear lines, and it is not a good look. When the pants aren’t tailored correctly, the thin fabric makes them look like pajama pants. We had a very disappointing experience that could’ve completely ruined our wedding and we wasted a lot of money, so I pray no one else experiences...
Read moreI have had a few months to collect my thoughts. My husband was very excited to find a suit store that catered to thicker men. He went and got measured for a custom suit, that included alterations. We made three different trips to the city for fittings...each time the pants didn't fit. My husband gave them a due date that was 3 weeks before our wedding..the last fitting we went to the pants did not fit. We followed up weekly at this point because we were getting to crunch time. They offered to mail them to us and Unfortunately my husband gave them the wrong address, even then they did not arrive until after our wedding day. We scrambled the weekend before to get another suit. Once we were returned from our wedding, and the pants are still not right. We are out a lot of money for a custom suit that doesn't fit, and did not arrive in time for our wedding, even with a deadline that was 3 weeks before. I'm just very disappointed in the...
