We went on a Saturday, and as expected it was busy. However brunch took almost 2 hours, the food was slow, and the staff ignored us and took forever to get our check! We got 2 menus for 3 people and we didn't even get the full menu, as we later had to get the vegan menu, like it was some sort of secret menu. I had hoped to get a vegan brunch but was informed nothing at the brunch was vegan, so I looked at the vegan menu. I asked the waiter if the cheese on the vegan pasta from the menu was vegan "fresh mozzarella", to which he responded yes, so I ordered it, since fresh mozzarella imitations are really hard to find. When the pasta came, it was daiya mozzarella - far from a fresh mozzarella imitation. Firstly anything other than fresh mozzarella does not belong on pasta, it should be Parmesan if they were going to cheap out or at the very least be typical American-Italian. Secondly daiya is a mediocre vegan cheese, there are far better vegan cheeses they could have used. Of all the vegan cheeses, daiya mozzarella (nor cheddar) belong on pasta. To add to my disappointment the pasta was very over cooked, now I admit I'm used to pretty firm and more authentic pastas, but this was borderline slimy-mush. If you like Olive garden or it's contemporaries, then it was just a vegan version of that. Other people at my table ordered non-vegan options and were quite impressed (the only reason I'm giving this more than a one star). The mimosas were decent, then again I don't think you can really mess those up. However the table next to us did complain about them and demand a new one, so I'm probably not an expert...
Read moreBaba Yega Cafe used to be a must visit/staple item in the Montrose District. With the cafe being in the heart of the Gay Community, it has always served as a mainstay for the neighborhood and clubgoers. However, things have deteriorated over the past few years. Sadly, the service and food quality has hit a new low. Recently, Hungry's purchased the cafe from longtime owner Charles Armstrong. As with many new acquisitions, the new owner decided to change some of the unique things which made Baba Yega the quirky Montrose jewel everyone had come to love. These changes brought forth a completely new dynamic to the cafe. Many of the familiar faces (staff members & customers) you had come to know and love over the years are now gone. Seems somewhat sterile now. Price increases, lesser portions, inexperienced waitstaff, food quality and menu changes are just a few items that spring to mind. I have not been treated poorly since the change, just too much change all at once. Whilst I realize that things sometimes must change, I have come to accept that Baba Yega has changed for the worse. It is disheartening and difficult to witness yet another Montrose...
Read moreCame here for the Sunday brunch buffet to celebrate my birthday with my family and we were a party of 4 adults 2 kids and 2 babies with a couple who had a separate check. My husband ordered off the menu and the rest of us enjoyed the buffet. When the bill came the waiter charged me for the menu items, 3 adult buffets, 2 kids buffet at 10 and under and 2 kids buffet at 3 and under. So, you are going to charge me for two infants who don't eat solid foods to sit with us at the table at your restaurant?!? Naturally, I questioned the waiter about this and he argued with me that there was a third kid. My sister has one child and I have three, two of which (twins) are only 8 months old! He continued to argue with me even after he removed the charges for my twins who didn't even step foot in the buffet area. I give five stars for the food which is excellent, but deducted two stars because of the service. It left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Very disappointing since this was the first time my sister and her family ate here and I hyped...
